TRACE-HOLDER FOR BACK-BANDS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 325,502, dated September 1, 1885.
Application filed April 6, 1885. (No model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALoNzo CoLLINs, of Ghetopa, in the county of Labette and State of Kansas, haveinvented a new and Improved Trace-Holder for Back-Bands, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new andirnproved detachable device for bolding the trace-chain to the back-band of a 1131" ness, and which device can be so adjusted as to fit horses of different sizes.
My invention consists of a recessed metal plate riveted to the lower end of the backband, which plate is provided with apertures, of a detachable hook for holding the tracechain, having a shield, a shank, and a catch.
The invention also consists of various parts and details, hereinafter more fully set forth and described.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention, showing the hook attached to the back-band. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional elevation of the same on the line or x of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a rear view of the metal plate and the hook.
To the lower end of the back band Athe metal plate B is riveted, which is provided on its inner side with a recess, 0, and which plate B has the triangular apertures D. The detachable hook E is provided on its lower end with the inwardly-benthook E, in which a link of the trace-chain F can be placed. The upper end of hook E is bent inwardly at right angles, and is provided with the square shield G, to which is attached the shank H, having the catch I on its inner end, the said catch I. being of a reversed corresponding shape to the apertures D in the metal plate B. A link of the trace chain F is placed in the hook E, and the hook E, with the said trace-chain F, is turned upside down, and the catch I is inserted in one of the apertures D of the metal plate B until the shield G strikes against the face of the metal plate 13. The hook E, with the trace-chain F, is then turned downward, the shank H being the fulcrum, until the hook E has reached a vertical position, thereby securely locking the hook E to the metal plate I3, riveted to the back-band A.
The catch I turns downward, with the hook E in the recess 0 in the metal plate B, there by having the reversed position to the aperture D, as shown in Fig. 3.
The hook E can be detached from the metal plate B by being turned upward until the shape of catch I corresponds to the shape of aperture D, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, and by then being withdrawn in the direction of the arrow a.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new-and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a traceholder for back-bands, the hook E, having on its lower end the hook E and on its upper end the shield G, provided with the shank H, having on its inner end the catch I, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a trace holder for back bands, the hook E, having on its lower end the hook E and on its upper end the shield G, provided with the shank H, having on its inner end the ottch I, in combination with the metal plate B, having apertures D and recess 0, and adapted to be fastened to the lower end of the backband A, substantially as shown and described.
. ALONZO COLLINS.
