T all whom, it may concer/m Be it known that l, HENRY M. SKINNER, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ilows, of which the following is a specilieation.
This invention relates to the portions of'a plow known as the rolling colter andjoint- 1o er. Its object is to obtain a unison of action in these parts, and to obtain the necessary adjustments of the parts to render them efficient in their combined capacity and in connection with the plow. To this end I have designed and constructed the apparatus represented in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a plan view of an apparatus en1- bodying my invention. These several parts are substantially the same as like parts found in Iatent No. 287,733, issued to me lor improvement in rolling colters, dated 35 October 30, 1883.

The hub is then placed on the axlebolt, and the cap over the head thereof', and the parts are fixed in position by means of rivets or bolts passed through the iiange of the hub, through the blade ot' the colter, and through the ears of the cap. The square portion of the axle-bolt is then passed through the opening in the outer end ofthe yoke'arm, and by means of ascrew-nnt the colter is fixed in position on the arms to revolve on its axlesupport vin connection therewith. rIhe employment of the cap to cover the head of the axle-bolt is acomplete protection against dirt or grit working into the joint, and, in connection with the mnd band, operates to protect the whole bearing.

At L is represented a rectangular socket tted to receive the lateral arm of the yoke, on which it is made adjustable lengthwise, and when adjusted is fixed in place thereon by means of a setscrew, e, screw-threaded into its forward end. in a manner to permit of a vertical adjustment of its rear end, and when adjusted is fixed in position by means of a clamping-screw passed through the axial center of the rosette-ratch ets.
The plow-beam N, from its connection with the socket portion thereof, extends rearward, laving its rear portion curved downward in a suitable manner, as shown in Fig. l2. V
At P is represented the foot-support of the jointer plowshare, having its shank portion produced in concave form to engage the front convex surface of the downturned portion of the plow-beam in such a manner as to permit of a limited rolling movement thereon, and capable of a vertical adjustment on the beam.
At l is represented a screw-clamp of loop form, to receive the plow-beam and the shank of the footsupport placed on its front edge, and its rear portion, m, is screw-threaded and extends through a suitable washer, fn, and receives a screw-nut, by means of which the foot-support is iirmly clamped tothe beam and made adjustable thereon.
At R is represented a share produced from suitable material in the usual plow form, and is l securely iixed tothe foot portion p of the footsupport by means of holding bolts passed through the parts, or otherwise. These several parts, consisting of thefbeam, share, footsupport, and holding mechanism, constitute the jointer, and by reason of the adjustable connection of the plow-beam with the colteryoke the jointer is made adjustable toward or from the colter. The rosette-ratchet connection of the two-part plow-beam provides the means for the vertical adjustment of the rear end of the beam to vary the angle of the share relatively with the ground, and the adj ustable connection of the foot-support of the share With the beam provides the means for the vertical adjustment of the share on the beam to vary its running depth relatively with the colter, and also to vary its angle relatively with the line of travelvof the colter.
By this connection of the jointer with the colter I produce a combination in which the oscillatory or lateral swinging movements of the colter and jointer and their relative running depth shall be in unison, and their adjustments relatively with each other are such as to meet the requirements of their joint action.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a combined rolling colter and jointerplow, the jointer made adjustable relatively with the colter laterally, substantially as and for the purpose setforth. l 2. In a combined rolling colter and jointerplow, the jointer-plow beam having a pivotconnection with the yoke ofthe colter,whereby the angle or inclination of the jointer-plow may be varied, and means, substantially as shown, for securing said plow in adjusted position, as set forth.
3. In a combined rolling colter and jointerplow, the jointer made adjustable laterally with relation to the colter, and also made verticallyV adjustable by means, substantially as shown, tovary the angle or inclination of the said jointer-plow, as set forth.
4. AIn a combined rolling colter and jointerplow, the jointer-plow made adjustable in its connection with its beam-support to vary its angle relatively with the line of travel of the colter, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
5. The combination, with .a rolling colter capable of a lateral oscillatory movement, of a jointer-plow, said jointer-ploW supported to conform tothe oscillating and vertical move ments of the colter, substantially as .and for the purpose set forth.
6. In a combined rolling colter and jointerplow, a two-part beam, said two-part beam having a rosette-ratchet connection, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
7. The combination, with the colter-yoke, of a plow-beam havinga socket and set-screw connection with an arm on the colter-yoke, substantially as set forth.
