insects-a.
Be it known that I, JAcon H. 'Rr'zon, a citizen of the United States, and; a resident of Van Wert, in the county of VairWVert and State of' Ohio, have invented acertainnew' anduseful Jointer-Beam; and I" do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and tothecharacters of refer ence marked thereon,-whichform a part of this specification. V f
My invention relates to'jointers for breaking the-surface in advance of plows.
It has particular reference to jointer's when used in connection with roll ng colters and it has for its ob ect to providemeans for so supporting the j ointer' relative to the rolling colter and plow so that sod, roots or stockyj fertilizing material such as corn To show the practicability of my invention,
I have selected one of such constructions as an example and shall describe it hereinafter.
The construction selected is illustrated in j the accompanying drawings.
Figure lof the drawing, is an illustration of the rolling colter, the jointer' and the plow. The plow beam is shown broken away for convenience of illustration and-the supporting frame is omitted. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the rolling colter and the jointer. Fig. 3 is a top View of the rolling colter and the jointer.
1, is the plow.
2 is the plow beam. 7 M
3 is the rolling colter which is supportedv on the frame, 4, to which the plow 2 is connected in the manner well known in the art. 5 is the jointer which is also connected to the frame 4.
The rolling colter is located in advance of earns JACOB H. Rico's; or VAN w-ERT, onto Applicationfiledsepteinber 4,1914; Serial no. 960,172.

subsequently turned. over by thepl'ow share.
.The colter 'ispivotally connected to a pin 10 by means of 'a' bifurcated arml'l'. It is secured in position between the shoulder 12' and the split pin 13. The 'jointer 5 is supported: on" a beam 15.- The beam 1 5 has a portion 16 which extends vertically'upward as at 1'6. The'jointer is securedto the'p'o'rtion 16 by means of the clamping' collar 17. Ttis adjustably located in position by'means ofthei key bolt-18'. The iointer'may be ad justedby shifting the collar 17 either angularly on thevertical portion 16 or longitudinally along the verticalpartway g'llhe beam .15 is also provided with aportio'n 19 which; extends horizontally well above the top of the rollingcoltei" at th'ehdelivery point of thej'oiafiergThrs leavesa considerable space 21 between the beamana the-top of the railing coltersothatif'materia1' is carried upward by the breaking action of the jointer and the cutting actionof the rolling colter, it will have full opportunity to escape from the rolling colter and the jointer and its supporting beam. The horizontal portion 19 extends from thevertical portion 16 to an inclined portion 20. I
The beam is pivotally connected to the pin 10. The end of the beam is Provided with two ears 25 and 26. The pin extends through openings formed in the ears 25 and 26. The ears are locatedon each side of the head 14 of the bifurcated arm 11. The arm 15 may be adjusted angularly with reference to the bifurcated arm l1.v This is accomplished by means of a machine bolt 27 which extends through an enlarged portion of the end of the beam 15 and presses against the head 14 of the bifurcated arm slightly to the rear of the axis of the pin 10. By screwing the bolt 27 thebeam 15 is pushed angularly outward with respect to the arm 11. The bolt 27 may be directed angularly inward as shown in Fig. 3. The
beam 15 is locked in position with reference to the arm 11 by means of a threaded U-bar or by a pair of cross-bars 28' which are clamped together by a pair of bolts 29 which clamp the beam 15 to one of the furcations of the arm 11 after the beam 15 has been adjusted by means of the bolt 27.
i In the jointers now known in the art, the
sod clogs in between the jointers and the colters which frequently causes the beam on the jointer to break and requires the user of the plow to frequentlystop in his work' and clean out the material which collects in a between the two or repair'the vjointeror re place the jointer beam.
The construction selected and described, may be greatly varied in the arrangement .ters Patent, is,
1 The combination of a rolling colter and a jointer, 'abeam for supporting-the colter and a beam for supporting the jointer,
the beam of the jointerhaving ears over-- lapping the sides of theend of the beam of the rolling colter, and a pin extending through the ears of the beam of the j ointer anldthe end of the beam of the rolling co ter.
2. The combination of rolling colter and a jointer, a beam for supporting the rolling colter and .a. beam--for supporting *the jointer, the end of the, beam of the jointer being bifurcated and overlapping the end of "the beam of the rolling colter, a pin extending through the ends of the beams for pivotally supporting the beams and a threaded bolt extending through the end of the beam of the jointer and abutting the end of the beam of the rolling colter and located substantially tangential to the surface of the pin.
3. The combination of a rolling colter, a
, jointer, abifurcated arm for supporting the rolling colter, a beam for supporting the joiuter, a pin extendingthrough the heads of the arm and beam, a bolt for adjusting the beam relative to the arm and means for clamping the arm and beam together.
4. The combination of a rolling colter, a
jointer, a bifurcated arm for supporting the rolling colter, a beam for supporting the 'jointer, a pin extending through the heads of the arm and beam, for pivotally connecting them, a bolt located to the rear of the axis of the pin for adjusting the beam relative to the arm and a clamping means for clamping the beam to one of the furcations of the arm. V
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing wltnessesr JACOB H. RIZOR. .Witnesses:
