Patented Aug 18, 1885.

WITNESSES R O T N V N I ATTORNEY N. PETERS. Pholo-Lllhogmpbcn Wnshinglnn. D. c.
with TATES \VILLIAM H. RIVERS, OF ADAMS, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR- OF ONE THIRD TO EDGAR WVR-IGHT, OF SAME PLACE.
THREAD-GUARD FOR SPINNING-FRAMES.
EBPECIPICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 324,730, dated August 18, 1885. Application filed October 30, 1884. (No mode To all whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, WILLIAM'H. Rivnns, of Adams, in the county of Berkshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thread-Guards for Spinning-Frames; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The invention relates to spinning-machines; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents the-invention applied to a portion of a ring-spinning frame. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the combined thread-guard and traveler-cleaner; Fig. 3, an edge view of the same.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by letter, A represents a ring-rail having the rings B, of usual construction, attached. 0 is the spindle-rail carrying the spindles D, which pass through the ring-rail in the usual man ner. E E are the bobbins, and T is the threadboard. These parts differ in no way from the ordinary construction and need no detailed description.
H H are guide-blocks connected by the hinges h h to the free edge of the thread-board, as shown, and carrying on their free edges'the guide eyes 0. a
F Fare thread-guards consisting of the plate portions a,- which stand between the bobbins, each at an equal distance from its corresponding bobbin, and the feet portion (02113 right angles to the plate portion, as shown. Each feet a is provided with longitudinal grooves u, in which lie the rods Z), the guards being secured to the rods by plates 0, correspondingly grooved to the feet and secured thereto over the rods by screws.
G G are curved hangers secured at their upper ends to and depending from the under surface of the thread-board I. The lower ends 'of the hangers are secured to the rods b be tween the plates The upper ends of the hangers may be secured to the thread-board; but the described construction is preferred.
J are travelers of the usual C-shaped contour and moving in the usual manner on the rings 13.
g is a notch on the lower edge of each plate a, provided with the vertical beveled inner edge, g,which is properly hardened; or a steel Wiper, h, having its outer edge beveled, may have its base secured to the edge g, which would then be fiat.
The guard is so hung and the notch in the guard is in such relative position to the ring that when the ring-rail rises to or nearly to its greatest elevation the traveler as it revolves around the ring will pass through the notch, and will impinge against the beveled edges, which will knock off any fiber or flyings which might otherwise clog the traveler and interfere with its function. The guards separate the threads and keep them clean in the usual manner.
I am aware that the shown construction and arrangement of the thread-board, guard-plate, ringrail, spindles, and spindle-rail are old, and I do not claim them singly or in combination with each other, but, Y
Having described my invention, what I claim 1s 1. A plate thread-guard having on its edge a notch provided with a vertical beveled edge adapted to strike lightly against the traveler as the latter rises with the-ring-rail and clear the same, substantially as specified.
2. The thread-guard F,provided on its lower edge with the triangular notch 9, against the vertical edge of which is secured a steel wiper, h, having a vertical beveled edge, which is adapted to impinge lightly on and clear the traveler J as the latter rises with the ringrail, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix mysiguature in presence of two witnesses.
VILLIAMI H. RIVERS.
