Description

HER. WASHINGTON D C NITEI) STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE DARE, OF AUBURN, NEW YORK.
MODE-OF HANGING WINDOW-SASH.,
Specification of Letters Patent No. 32,472. dated. June 4, 1861.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE DARE, of Auburn, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVindow-Sash; and I do hereby declare that the following is` a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the 'letters of reference marked thereon. In the annexed drawings making a part of this speciiication A, represents the window box which holds the sash and which is constructed in the usual way, being provided with openings in which the weights for balancing sash are commonly placed.
The edge ofthe sash which works next to the box is provided with a dovetailed groove which receives a corresponding strip D. This strip D, is constructed in two parts, and
these parts are hinged together as shown in l Figure 3. Then the strip is shoved down in the groove in the sash, a pin B, passes through the sash and into the strip for the Apurpose of securing it in place. The cord usually used for attaching the weight to the sash is secured to the strip D. The box A is made solid, and the sash is made small enough to pass in readily. lhen the strip is secured in* the sash, said strip fits in the groove in the box and holds the sash. fast in it. When it is desired to remove the sash-the pin B is drawn out and the strip is raised until the hinge comes above thesash it is then bent as seen in Fig. 2 and drawn out-the sash is then free to be removed.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The employment of the jointed or hinged strip D, secured to, and used in connection with the sash, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
GEORGE DARE.
