(Cl. 36-30) My invention relates to improvements in shoe soles in general and in particular to a novel out sole and inner sole construction.

An important object of my invention is to provide such a construction in which the out sole is secured to the inner sole by securing means which is concealed from view.

A further object of my invention is to provide such a construction in which the edge trim strip is secured to the out sole in such a manner that the trim strip is folded back at the line of stitching and about the edges of both soles and fastened to the inner sole, the central portion of said trim strip having a circular profile beyond the edges of said soles, thus presenting a neat appearance.

Yet another object of my invention is to provide such a sole construction which is simple and economical to manufacture.

Other objects and a fuller understanding of the invention may be had by referring to the following description and claim taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing.

It should be understood, however, that these are given by way of illustration and not of limitation, and that various changes in the details, form and arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the scope of the invention.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, the shoe comprises an upper shoe portion 12, a heel 14, a sole, generally indicated as 16, and a leather body or inner sole 18. To a plastic or leather out sole 20 is secured leather body 18 by an edge trim 22 formed with a wide top edge which is secured with glue 26 to the leather body or inner sole 18.

The bottom edge of the trim 22, however, is formed as a very narrow rounded portion 28 which is inturned at 32 and secured to the out sole 20 and inner sole 18 by means of fine thread stitching 30. This construction not only permits a strong and durable construction of the edge trim 22 and a durable securing of the out sole 20 to the inner sole 18 but also permits a rounded delicate clean-cut shaping of the edge trim 22 which conceals the stitching and enhances the appearance of out sole as well as of the shoe. materials of a variety of colors and patterns.

The invention having thus been described, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States of America is: i

As a new article of manufacture, the combination of a thin outsole and a thicker inner sole of the same contour and dimensions, said outsole being secured to said inner sole, and an edge trim strip of flexible fabric, a line of stitching securing one edge of said trim strip to the exposed face of said outsole, said trim strip being folded upon itself at the line of stitching, the opposite edge of said strip being folded over the edges of said soles and positioned on the upper face of said inner sole, the central portion of said trim strip having a circular cross-section beyond the edges of said soles, and means securing the entire length of said opposite edge to the upper face of said inner sole, said trim strip extending around the entire periphery of said soles.
