(Ill. 223-86) The present invention relates to a garment hanger for skirts, petticoats, half-slips and similar articles, and more particularly to a garment hanger about which a skirt, petticoat, half-slip or like article may be easily wrapped and. supported.

One object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger of the type described including a hollow body for containing a volatile solid chemical, such as scented tablets, disinfectants, insect repellants and the like which, when volatilized, can permeate the garment wrapped about the hanger.

Another object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger of the type described including a hook or suspension means which may be integral with the hanger body or detachable therefrom for facilitating packing or storing of the hanger.

A further object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger having a body of tapering or substantially frusto-conical configuration about which the garment may be wrapped and secured thereto by an elastic band, such as a garter.

Yet another object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger having a hollow body of tapering or substantially frusto-conical configuration about which the garment may be wrapped and secured with the smaller end of the body having a plate-like component extending outwardly beyond the periphery of the body for preventing the wrapped garment from sliding off the smaller end of the body.

The invention comprises essentially a garment hanger device around which skirts, petticoats, half-slips and other garments of analogous shape may be wrapped comprising a rigid hollow upwardly tapering body having a larger end and a smaller end, a removable lid having perforations therein closing the larger end of the upwardly tapering body, a plate-like component having perforations therein closing the smaller end of the upwardly tapering body and extending outwardly from the smaller end for preventing the wrapped garment from sliding off such smaller end, the body serving to contain a volatile solid chemical, the volatilization of which is aided by the air passing through the perforations, and a hook projecting from the plate-like component for suspending the hanger from a support.

The present invention is hereinafter to be particularly described by way of example but by no manner of means of limitation, with reference to the accompanying draw ings, of which:

FIGURE 1 is a view in longitudinal axial section taken through said device with a garment wrapped thereon and secured by means of an elastic band,

FIGURE 2 is a view in longitudinal axial section of a modified hanger,

FIGURE 3 is a view in perspective showing a skirt or the like in the course of being wrapped around the tapering, i.e. in this case substantially frustoconical body,

FIGURE 4 illustrates an accessory adapted to carry several such devices for the suspension of different garments of this nature, said accessory per se being suspended from the rail or bar of the wardrobe, and of the revolving type if desired to take out the garment selected when the latter comes into sight,

FIGURE 5 shows another accessory intended to allow a number of said devices to be suspended transversely to the rail or bar of the wardrobe, and

FIGURE 6 shows a single device suspended from the rail or bar of a wardrobe.

Referring to FIGURE 1, the present invention comprises a hollow upwardly tapering or frusto-conical body, 1, preferably of plastic material, in which the upper of smaller end 2 is provided with a central opening 3 and a number of perforations or holes 4, 4 located concentrically around the central opening 3. The lower or larger end is open as shown at 5.

A circular plate 6 having a central opening 7 and a row of perforations or holes 8, 8' concentric therewith at the same radius as that of the holes 4, 4' is located above the end 2.

A hook 9 having a bend or angle 10 extends vertically from said bend to form a stem or shank 11 provided with a screw-thread at its lower end. The stem or shank passes through washer 12, the openings 7 and 3, a washer 13, and by tightening nut 14, the body 1, plate 6 and hook 9 are connected together to provide a garment hanger. A skirt 18, 18' or the like is adapted to be wrapped about peripheral surface 17 of the body in approximately two full turns. A band 19, 19 such as an elastic loop or the like surrounds and secures the garment to the body 1.

The volatile substances previously mentioned may be enclosed within the body 1 by closing the open lower end 5 with a lid or cover 15 with rim 16 fitting tightly into the lower end. The lid 15 is formed with several holes 29, 20, and these together with the holes 8, 8' and 4, 4' assist in the passage of air through the body and thus the volatilization of the substances therein so that the vapors developed may permeate the garment wrapped about the body 1. Upon relative rotation between the body 1 and the plate 6, a controlled quantity of air can be admitted through the holes 4, 4 and 8, 8.

In the embodiment disclosed in FIG. 2, it will be seen that smaller end 2 of body 1' is integral with such body and plate 6'. Hook 9 is integrally formed with the center of the end 2 and apertures 40 and 41 are concentrically arranged relative to the hook 9. The remaining components of the hanger are similar to those shown in FIG. 1 and the numerals denoting corresponding components are primed. This form functions in substantially the same fashion as that disclosed in FIG. 1.

FIGS. 4-6 illustrate various means whereby the garment hanger may be suspended in a wardrobe or the like, and no further description is deemed necessary.

The invention is not to be confined to any strict conformity to the showings in the drawings, but changes or modifications may be made therein so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A garment hanger about which skirts, petticoats, half-slips and similar garments may be wrapped, comprising a rigid hollow upwardly tapering body having a large lower open end and a smaller upper end, a removable lid having perforations therein closing the large end, a plate having perforations therein mounted at said smaller end, said plate extending outwardly beyond said smaller end and serving to protect the upper end of a garment wrapped about the body and preventing such a garment from accidental displacement beyond said smaller end, said hollow body being adapted to contain a volatile solid chemical with volatilization of the chemical being aided by air entering the body through the perforations and the vapors leaving the body through the perforations in the lid for permeating the garment, and a hook projecting from the plate for allowing the hanger to be suspended from a support.

The garment hanger as claimed in claim 1, and including an end closure for said smaller end, said end 0 closure having perforations therein located the same distance from the central axis of said body as the perforations in said plate, and means rotatably mounting said plate with respect to said end closure whereby the degree of registry between the perforations in the plate and said end closure may be adjusted.

The garment hanger as claimed in claim 2, in which said end closure and plate have aligned central apertures therein, the means rotatably mounting said plate including a stem on said. hook passing through said aligned central apertures and means for securing the stem within said body whereby the stem provides an axis of rotation for the plate.

4. The garment hanger as claimed in claim 1, in which said plate is integrally formed with said body.

Claims (1)

1. A GARMENT HANGER ABOUT WHICH SKIRTS, PETTICOATS, HALF-SLIPS AND SIMILAR GARMENTS MAY BE WRAPPED, COMPRISING A RIGID HOLLOW UPWARDLY TAPERING BODY HAVING A LARGE LOWER OPEN END AND A SMALLER UPPER END, A REMOVABLE LID HAVING PERFORATIONS THEEIN CLOSING THE LARGE END, A PLATE HAVING PERFORATIONS THEREIN MOUNTED AT SAID SMALLER END, SAID PLATE EXTENDING OUTWARDLY BEYOND SAID SMALLER END AND SERVING TO PROTECT THE UPPER END OF A GARMENT WRAPPED ABOUT THE BODY AND PREVENTING SUCH A GARMENT FROM ACCIDENTAL DISPLACEMENT BEYOND SAID SMALLER END, SAID HOLLOW BODY BEING ADAPTED TO CONTAIN A VOLATILE SOLID CHEMICAL WITH VOLATILIZATION OF THE CHEMICAL BEING AIDED BY AIR ENTERING THE BODY THROUGH THE PERFORATIONS AND THE VAPORS LEAVING THE BODY THROUGH THE PERFORATIONS IN THE LID FOR PERMEATING THE GARMENT, AND A HOOK PROJECTING FROM THE PLATE FOR ALLOWING THE HANGER TO BE SUSPENDED FROM A SUPPORT.
