Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE P. FRENCH, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
LUBRICATING COMPOUND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 324,018, dated August 11, 1885.
Application filed December 14, 18*.3. Renewed January 15, i885. (No specimens.)
, To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. FRENCH, of Rochester, Monroe county, New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Lubricating Compounds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My improvement relates to a lubricatingcompound for machinery, in which the basis uid. Then add the paraifine and bay or green wax. Boil slowly, agitate, and add the salsoda. This makes a union of the parts. Allow the material to 0001. Then add the petroleum and oil, at the same time stirring the mass. Then add the plumbago, continuing the agitation till the parts are thoroughly incorporated, after which allow the compound to stand for three days.
the great body of the oil.
The petroleum forms The paraffine and bay or green wax give it the necessary substance and body. The potash adds the necessary alkali. The cream of tartar purifies, and the soda and borax produce the desired union of the parts. The plumbago adds to the lubricating qualities. This oil is simple, cheap, and Very eiiective for all ordinarylubricating purposes. j
The proportions above named may be modified according to the necessities of the case. For instance, in summer a heavier oil is required than in winter, and for heavy machinery aheavier oil is required than for light machinery. The proportions may be varied more or less to meet these conditions. This oil is adapted to railroad-journals as well as all kinds of machinery.
Having described my invention, I claim The lubricating compound herein described, consisting of petroleum, sal soda, potash, borax, cream of tartar, paraffine-wax, bay or green wax, unctuous oil, and plumbago, substantially in the proportions specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE P. FRENCH.
