HARNESS-OIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 439,607, dated October 28, 1890.
Application filed August 7 1890. Serial No. 361,357. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OLIVER HARRISSON SHAW,a citizen of the United States, residing at Toms Brook, in the county of Shenandoah and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness- Oil, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to produce and supply a superior oil or dressing for use on harness that may be cheaply and readily manufactured and which will keep indefinitely and be effective in use, as will be more fully hereinafter described.
The ingredients of the compound and their proportions are as follows: For one gallon of the oil I preferably use neats-foot oil, three quarts; beef-tallow, one pound; castile soap, one pound; lamp-black, one-fourth pound; gum-shellac, one-fourth pound; ivory-black, one-fourth pound; gum-arabic, three ounces; rosin, one ounce. The proportion of these ingredients may be varied without departing from the invention.
The ingredients are preferably compounded in the following manner: Into a heated kettle or other vessel is introduced the soap,

The compound herein described, consisting 40 of the following ingredients in substantially the proportions specified: neats-foot oil, tallow, soap, lamp-black, gum-shellac ivoryblack, gum-arabic, and rosin, substantially as described. v
