Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE} NIGOLAUS DOETSOH, OF DETROIT MICHIGAN.
ClGAR-BUNCHING TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No 322,356, dated July 14, 1885.
' Application filed December 10, 18:34. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, NIOOLAUS DOETSCH, of Detroit, in the county of VVaynes and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oigar-Bunching Tools; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hand-tools for forming cigar-bunches; and it consists in the peculiar construction of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the funnel. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the follower; Fig. 3, a similar view of my stopper-plate; and Fig. 4, a cross-section of a mold-board, showing the stopper-plate in position.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A represents the lower part of an ordinary cigar mold-board, provided with a series of molds, 13, in which the cigar-bunches are molded.
G is an elongated funnelprovided with cars, a and the discharge-spout b, which is of the same shape as the cigar-mold, but a trifle smaller, so as to be readily introduced therein, as shown in Fig. 4.
E is a follower of corresponding shape in crosstsection with the cigar-mold, but somewhat smaller in size than the funnel, so as to fit loosely into the discharge-spout b thereof.
H is a plate or stopper provided on the under side with the flange h, the shape of which allows the plate to be put on,as a cover, over any one of the cigar-molds, the flange preventing accidental displacement of the stopper. One side of this stopper or plate is curved, as shown at g, so as to fit close onto the discharge-spout b of the funnel.
The bunches are formed as described in an application filed by me May 2, 1884, Serial No. 130,171, and hence need not be described here, further than to show the function of the plate or stopper H.
In making hand-made bunches it is important that the mold adjacent to the one being filled should be covered to prevent the filler material from falling-therein, which, if such material is not taken out before forming the next bunch, an imperfect hunch is produced; and in the ordinary mold-board but a small interval is left between the molds, which is apt to be forced out by the pressure of the follower used to complete the bunch.
My stopper or plate H is intended to cover the moldadjacent to the one being filled, and at the same time brace and strengthen the mold-board, the curved edge 9 fitting against the funnel, as will be readily understood.
' No claim is herein made to the process of making the bunches, as that is claimed in my aforesaid application N 0. 130,171, of which this is a division 5 nor is any claim made to the funnel and follower in this case, as they form the subject-matter of an application of even date herewith, also filed as a division of the aforesaid application No. 130,171.
What 1 claim as new is- 1. The combination, with a mold-board provided with molds B, of a funnel, G, and the plate H, provided with means for preventing its lateral displacement, and having one of its sides constructed to fit against the side of said funnel, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
2. The plate H, having the curved edge 9,
and a projecting flange, it, upon its under 'side,
which latter fits into a cigar-mold, and keeps the plate H in position, when used as a cover for such mold.

CHARLES J. HUNT, H. S. SPRAGUE.
