R. FOX.l
COLLAR BUTTONBR.
` 319,322,273, Patented July 1.4, 1885,
WIM/8858 B y A zforneyf STATES 'ROWLAND FOX, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COLLAR-BUTTONER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 322,273, dated July 14, 1885.
-Application lod April 23, 1885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Fe itknown that I, ROWLAND FoX, a citizen ofthe United States, and residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Buttoners, of which the follow ing is a specification. y
My invention relates to a device for clasping or taking hold of a button or stud, and is provided with means for retaining its hold on the button while threading the button-hole, and is adapted to draw the button after it, thereby with a simple and continuous movement to button and fastenany number of folds together without any twisting movement.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a side elevation of one form of my invention. Figs. 2, 3, and Il are respectively front, cross section, and end views of the same form. Fig. 5 is a front view of a modified form, showing a double-ended buttoner., Figs.6 and 7 are front and rear lviews of another form. Figs. 8 and 9 represent differentappearing buitoners constructed on the same principle as those shown in Figs. 1,2, 3,4. Fig. l() shows my buttoner utilized as a pencil extension or case. Fig. 11 represents the device as applied.
A represents a ,piece of brass or other metallic plate bent and formed into the shape shown in Fig. l. -It has a longitudinal opening at the side, as shown in Fig..2, to permit of its spreading when the button or stud is inserted.
rIhe stud or button B is shown insert-ed in buttoner is provided with an annular iiange or rim, C, on which the button or stud rests.
when inserted. The point D of the buttoner is threaded th rough the button-hole and draws i the button or stud after it, the liange or rim Cserving to retain the button. After'the butf` ton is in place the buttoner can easily be re. moved. This buttoner may be two-ended, as
shown in Fig. 5. In Fig. l() I `show how it can be utilized for a pencil-case. The pointed form shown in Figs. 6 and 7 is also adapted to carry a button or a stud through one or r more thicknesses of cloth irrespective of buttonholes, and I may use it for this purpose.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by i Letters Patent, is-
1. A collar or stud buttoner consisting of an expansible casing for holding the stud or` button and a point to introduce casing into one or more button-holes.
2. A collar or stud buttoner having a casing, A, aperturedv at the side, as shown, and a retaining rim or iange, for the purpose de# scribed.
3. A collar or stud buttoner, pointed at one end, having one or more apertures at the sides, 1
the buttoner in Fig. 3. The lower part ofthe 3
