Description

UNITED STATES PATENT @rricn.
THOMAS HEAD, OF COPETOVVN, ONTARIO, CANADA.
GRAINING COMPOSITION.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 321,295, dated June 30, 1885.
Application filed March :2, 1885. (No specimens.) Pntrntcd in Canada September 30, 1584, No. 20,292.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Tnonns HEAD, a citi zen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Gopetown, in the county of Ventworth and 5 Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and useful composition of matter to be used for ornamenting and decorating lightcolorcd painted wood or other material, of which the following is a specification.
My composition consists of the followingingredients, combined in the proportions stated, viz: tincture of arnica, one ounce; spontaneous fermented vinegar, sixteen ounces; white glue, six grains; pyroligneous acid, one ounce; oil of turpentine, half ounce. These ingredients are to be mixed in the following manner: Put the arnica into the vinegar, dissolve the glue in the pyroligneous acid, mingle by agitation, and then add the oil of turpentine.
In using the above-named composition, mix the liquid in small quantities with finely-powdered paint of the color desired, rub it on the painted material with a soft brush or a wad of cotton waste, or any kind of an absorbent,
then work out your designs and impressions with india-rubher stamps or dies, or anything that will produce the desired effect, and varnish as soon as dry.
I am not aware of any patent in the United States that would in any way conflict with this, and I believe it to be an improvement on one granted to mein Canada, No. 20,292, dated September 30, 1884:, for fifteen years.
\Vhat I elai m, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The herein-described composition of mat ter, to be used by mixing with mineral and other powdered paints, for ornamenting and decorating light-colored painted wood or othor material, consisting of tincture of arnica, spontaneous fermented vinegar, white glue, pyroligneous acid, and the oil of turpentine, mixed in the manner and proportions specified.
