FIRE KINDLER.

UNIT D STATES PATENT QFFIoa.
JAMES EDlVARD HIGNUTT, OF DENTON, MARYLAND.
FIRE-KINDLER.
SPECIFICATION forming partof Letters Patent No. 321,027, dated June 30, 1885.
Application filed February 5 1884. (No specimens.)
The invention consists in the improved construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
The drawing represents a perspective View of a fire-kindler constructed in accordance with my invention.
My improved firekindler is constructed in the following manner: A bunch or bundle of corn-cobs is dipped in a mixture of resin and tallow, the same having been previously heated, or in aliquid state, and the cobs are then removed and mixed with cobs in the plain state.
that is, those that have not been coated with an inflammable composition-and are then bundled by the use of wire or other fastening. The composition which I find preferable and use is: resin, one part; tallow, one-twentieth part, and sulphur, one-thirtieth part. Thus it will be seen that a kindler is constructed at a greatly reduced cost, and that corn-cobs coated with a composition as above described provide an inflammable and efficient kindler.
Having fully described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. Theherein-described fire-kindler, consisting of corn-cobs dipped in a solution of ms in, tallow, and sulphur in about the proportions specified.
' 2. As an improvementin fire-kindlers,corncobs dipped or immersed in a solution of resin, tallow, and sulphur in or about the proportions stated, then removed and mixed with other cobs ina plain statethat is, those which have not been coated-and, finally, bundled by the use of wire or other fastening, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES EDWARD HIGNUTT.
