PETERS. FhotmLilhog-zpher, Wnhinglnn. D. C-
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
CLARA E. HOSMER, or AUBURN, NEW YORK.
LEGGIN.
EPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,557, dated June 23, 1885.
(No an dol.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARA E. HOSMER, of the city of Auburn,Oaynga county,New York, have invented certain new and useful Iniprovements in Leggins, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to leggins made in the usual manner and of anyof the usual materials of which such articles are made; and this invention relates, particularly, to the means employed to secure such leggins in position when worn. This I do by means of buttons, hooks, or buckles in the usual manner for about one-third of its length from the bottom of the leggin, and to secure the re maining upper part I employ a piece of elastic cloth, a a a) a which is sewed or otherwise secured along its side a a to the part A of the leggin, and along its side a ato the part A. \Vithin a tuck around the top of the leggin an elastic band, I), lies, and its ends are buckled, buttoned, or otherwise secured together at the desired length. This band assists in holding the leggin in position, and the lower end of the leggin may be held down to its proper position by means of the loops 0 and d, which pass under theinstep. The lower end of the part A'is prolonged, as shown at g, to cover the instep, although I do not consider this essential.
By means of myinvention a leggin may be applied and secured in position very readily and with particular closeness and ease of fit.
The flaps or edges of the parts A and A may cover the elastic cloth a a" a a though it is not necessary that they should; still I consider that the best arrangement when they do.
Buttons, hooks, buckles, or any equivalent device or devices may be used at ff without changing the character of this invention, as well as upon the band I).
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a leggin having its opening closed by the clastic portion a a a a, the buttons f, or their equivalents, and the elastic band I), all arranged snbstantially as set forth.
CLARA E. HOSMER.
