To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, EDGAR W. ANTHONY, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, a citizen of the United States, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification in explaining its na ture, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cookingstove illustrating the features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a portion of a horizontal section, showing a partition-plate dividing the oven into two parts; and Fig. 3 is a portion of a horizontal section representing the partition-plate, which is attached to the removable partition. Fig. 4 shows a portion of the top plate of the oven, and also a part of the movable partition, hereinafter described. Fig. 5 is a view, in perspective, of the portable or movable jambplate.

The invention relates to a eooking'stove having a large oven at the rear of the fire-pot, closed by two swinging doors, and means for dividing the same, so that two ovens are formed when required, each of which shall have a separate door.

Referring to the drawings A represents the oven before division. B is one swinging door, and O the other. E is the movable partitioir plate, which, when in place, divides the large even into two smaller ones. Its lower edge slides in a slight depression or groove, a, in the bottom plate, a, of the oven, and it has a projection, o upon its upper edge, which closes into a recess, a, in the upper plate of the oven, and it thereby can be very easily inserted or removed, and is securely held in place, and when it is not used the floor or oven plate is without any projection. \Vhen said divisionplate is used, the doors shut upon the jambpiece F, which is a casting having a flat face, f, and backwardextending portion, f which is bolted to the division-plate; but when the division-plate is not employed it is of course necessary to provide some equivalent for this jamb-platc, and this I accomplish by means of a movable flange, G, attached to one of the doors so as to be moved outward therefrom to occupy the position of the jamb-plate, and

when not in use to be moved within the front edge of the door and held by the door until it may be necessary to use it. This movable jamb-plate is secured to either door by the arms which extend backward therefrom and have the long slots g, through which bolts or screws g, attached to the door, pass, and by which the movable plate or flange is fastened in position, either in or out, as may be desired.

\Vhen the removable division-plate is not in place and the entire oven is employed, the nuts of the bolts g are loosened and the flange G moved outward from the edge of the plate to the position shown in Fig. 3, when the nuts are tightened, locking the flange in place. This flange, as has already been stated, takes the place of the removablejamb, and of course the door hearing it is closed first, and the other door is closed upon the flange. 130th doors are locked by means of a notched latch,

H, projecting inward from the upper edge of the door into the suspended catch 11, projecting downward from the side plate of the stove.

The advantages of this invention are obvious.

I do not confine the portable or movable door-jamb to use in connection with the ovendoor, but may use it in connection with any other door or doors where it is desirable to have for any purpose a movable jamb-plate adapted to be supported by the door.

I am aware of the Patent No. 128,374, dated June 25, 1872, granted James Duffy, which describes a cookingstove having an oven the opening to which is closed by one door, and which has removable partition-plates, one of which extends across the oven horizontally, and the other of which extends from the said division-plate upwardly to the top plate, so that the oven may be divided into three com partmcnts, one of which extends the full width of the oven; but as the patent does not describe means whereby a large oven may be divided into two parts by movable partiti0nplates which are closed by separate doors, so that two entirely separate or independent ovens are provided, I consider that the stove described in the said patent does not contain the essential features of my invention.

Having thus fully described myinvention, l

claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. In a cooking stove or range, an oven, A, located behind the fire-pot, the two swinging doors B C, and a movable vertical partition, E, whereby the stove is provided with one large oven closed by two doors, or two smaller ovens, each of which has a separate door, all substantially as and for the purposes described.

2. The combination, in a stove or range, of an oven, A, the two swinging doors B O, the movable vertical partition E, and the jambpiece F, attached to the said partition, all sub; stantiall y as and for the purposes described.

3. The combination of the oven A, having the lower or base plate, a, provided with the depression or recess a, and the top plate having the recess a for supporting the movable vertical partition-plate E, the said partitionplatc, the jamb plate F, and the oven doors B 0, all substantially as and for the purposes described.

4. The combination of an oven with the doors B 0, one of which has the movable 25 flange G, all substantially as and for the purposes described.

5. The combination of the door B and the flange G, adapted to be moved into and out of operative position, and to be supported by 30 the door, all substantially as and for the purposes described.

6. The combination of a door, the movable flange G, having the slotted arms 9, and the bolts 9 all substantially as and for the pur- 5 poses described.

7. The combination of the oven A, the removable partition E, having the jambs f, the two doors B 0, one of which has the removable flange G, all substantially as and for the 40 purposes described.
