J. M. GRIEST.
PRESSER FOOT FOR SEWING MACHINES.
No. 319,702. Patented June 9, 1885.
W-Zznesses: j1/U67ZZT7J UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN M. GBIEST, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE SINGER MANU- FACTURING COMPANY OF NEW J ERSEY.
PRESSER-FOOT FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No,319,702, dated June 9 1885.
Application filed October 27, 1884.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, JOHN M. GRIEST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Presser-Feet for Sewing-Machines, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
Theobject of my invention is to provide a sewing-machine presser-foot of such construction that it is adapted for an attachment-holder. I accomplish this object by making the presser-foot somewhat shorter than usual, and providing it with parallel transverse grooves at its heel and toe. When so constructed, an attachment-carrying slide bifurcated to fit in said grooves may readily be connected with said presser-foot.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved presser-foot, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
A is the shank of the presser-foot, which is constructed in any suitable manner for attachment to the sewing-machine presser-bar. The foot portion B of the presser-foot is provided (No model.)
at its heel and toe with transverse grooves C,
between which is left a rib, D, which, when an attachment is secured to the foot, will be embraced by the fingers of a bifurcated springplate by which the attachment is carried.
When constructed as above described, the
presser-foot is adapted 'for use with various portion proper and between the upper and lower surfaces thereof, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN M. cainsr.
