Be it known that I, RUSSEL G1 VVoonWAno,

a citizen of the United States, residingl at lVaulregainin the county of Lake, State of lllinois, have invented certain new and usel ful improvement-s in Presser-Feet for Overseaining Sewing-lilachines, of Which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the let- Yters of reference marked thereon.

My invention relates toen improvement in presser feet, for sewing machines and partieularly to a presser foot adapted to be used upon overseaming machines of the type einF ploying a looper and spreader which cooperate with'a vertically reciprocating needle, the looper threadv being laid over a tongue on the presser foot to give elasticity to the stitch. Such a machine is illustrated in the Union Special single interlock machine, which is Well 'known in the trede. ln

.the-use of such a machine with the ordinary tongned presser foot, it has been found that in sewing very light goods with a very long stitchythe needle thread will pull upout of the goods and also the goods are not properly held down upon the work plate. y l have provided,v therefore, va presser foot which has atongue the under side of which is' lush with the under side of the presser foot, which tongue also extends beneath the part of the presser foot in rear thereof, leaving a clearance between its upper fece and the lower face of the presser foot to allow the threads. to slip oit the tongue. Alsosaid presser foot tongue serves toreduce the usda-l size of the needle opening and prevent any danger of the goods pulling up through said needle hole. The tongue is slightly adjustable laterally to permit the use of di'erent sized threads y The invention therefore, consists in the matters hereinafter described and referred to in' the appended claims.
