Description
P. TEFPT.
(No Model.)
TRUSS.
Patented June 2, 1885.
INV'ENTOR & E S m m ATTORNEYS.
NITED STATES PATENT GFFICEO PHA TEFFT, OF ORIENTAL, COLORADO TRUSS.
EPECIFICATION forming part. of Letters Patent No. 319,316, dated June 2, 1885.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PI-IA TEFFT, of Oriental, in the county of Saguaehe and State of 0010- rado, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in Trusses, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to furnish an easy-wearing, self-adjusting, and reversible truss; and it consists, in combination with a slotted belt and leg-strap pivoted thereto, of a lever provided with buttons integral therewith and carrying a pad pivoted thereto, whereby the truss may be reversed, as hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved truss, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the lever and its attached pad.
A is the belt; B, the lever; G, the pad, and D the leg-strap.
The belt A is composed of webbing, leather, or other suitable material. The strap D is an elastic band of webbing or other material, elastic for the whole or a part of its length and attached by one end to. belt A by a pin or rivet, c.
The pad 0 is made of wood, rubber, or other hard material of oval or egg shape lengthwise,
flat on its side next the lever B, with a slight bulge at its point of connection to the lever, so that the pad may revolve freely. The pad is attached by a screw, a, passing through the lever.
The lever B is made of wood, metal, or other suitable material 7 of suitable length, and widest at the end connected to the belt. It is connected to the belt and to the leg-strap by buttons b, or in place of buttons hooks or other suitable devices may be used.
This construction allows the ready discounection of the lever and pad before sleep, with out risk of misadjustment in replacing them. The pad is self-adjusting by reason of its loose connection to the lever. The truss can be used for hernia at either the right or left side. To change it from one side to the other, the belt is turned over and strap D turned on its connecting-pin c, and it can then be put on.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the slotted belt A and the leg-strap D, provided with the buttons b b, integral therewith, of pad 0, pivoted to said lever, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the truss may be reversed, as specified.
PHA TEFFT.
