Description
UNITED sTATEs. PATENT oEEioE.
WILLIAM H. LOCKE, OF CANTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
SCROLL 0F WATER-WHEELS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 31,810, dated March 26, 1861.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WM. H. LooKE,`of Canton, inthe county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement inMaking Scrolls for vWater-Vheels, and thatthe following is a full, clear, and exact description of the principle or character which distinguishes it from all other things before known and of the usual manner of making, modifying, and using the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a horizontal cross section through the scroll and wheel. Fig. 2 a
wing piece which is formed into a cylindrical pillar n. On division B is cast an ear piecem which iscurved as seen in section Fig. l so as to lembrace the pillar n. Then the two divisions are to be put together the ear piece is inserted within Opening c' and the edges a; of the scroll divisions being broughttogether they are held` rmly by the j0int` formed by m and c' and the clasp hooks z5 z5 which are on the top and bottom of the scroll. The peculiar joint made by ear .pieces m and openingz' being cast whole with the scroll divisions, makes a strong and very economical fastening, and although I do not confine myself to the clasp hooks as the means of locking the divisions together, yet if they are made to draw a little on the pins s they are very eflicient.
That I claim is- Casting the joint consisting of the ear piece m Opening z' and pillar n entire with the divisions of the scroll as set forth.
XVM. H. LO CKE.
