Description

S. GRISHMAN April 6, 1965 PANTY GIRDLE Filed Nov. 30, 1962 INVENTOR. 5/M0/v 6R/5HM/7N BY HTTORNEY United States Patent 3,176,693 PANTY GIRDLE Simon Grislnnan, Yonkers, N.Y., assignor to William Gluckin & Company, Inc., New. York, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed Nov. 30, 1962, Ser. No. 241,415 1 Claim. (Cl. 128-528) This invention relates to girdles, particularly wherein a panty is fixed at its upper edge to the body portion of the girdle and otherwise freely disposed within the girdle body portion. More particularly, the invention deals with a girdle structure, wherein the panty has its upper edge portions fixed to the body portion of the girdle at varying heights and, wherein, the panty includes independent side portions of a material contrasting to the remainder of the panty.
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:
FIG. 1 is a front diagrammatic view of a girdle made according to my invention, with part of the construction broken away and omitting all showing of stitchings to simplify the illustration and further illustrating the front and rear parts disposed substantially one upon the other. FIG. 2 is a view, generally similar to FIG. 1, of the rear portion of the girdle, with part of the construction broken away and showing garter supporting straps which are omitted from FIG. 1 in order to simplify the illustration.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged broken sectional view on the line 3-3 of FIG. 1 illustrating the front and rear portions in spaced relationship to each other.
FIG. 4 is an enlarged section on the line 4--4 of FIG. 1 of the front body portion only of the girdle; and
FIG. 5 is an enlarged broken section on the line 5-5 of FIG. 1, again illustrating the front and rear portions of the girdle in spaced relationship to each other for clarity in the illustration.
In the sectional View, no attempt has been made to illustrate characteristics of the parts by any particular type and kind of sectioning. In illustrating one adaptation and use of my invention, the body portion of the girdle is composed of front and rear panels and 11, joined by generally similar side portions 12. The side portions 12 are suitably stitched to side edges of the front panel 10, as diagrammatically illustrated at 13 in FIG. 5, and the rear panel 11 is similarly stitched, as indicated at 14, in said figure. At this time, it is pointed out that, in referring to stitching, any type and kind of decorative stitchings can be employed to produce a neat and finished appearance at the exterior of the girdle. Considering FIGS. 1 and 3 of the drawing, at 15 I have shown a relatively wide waistband elastic stitched to upper edges of the front panel 10 and rear panel 11, as well as to the sides 12, the stitchings being diagrammatically illustrated at 16 in FIG. 3 of the drawing. The waistband 15 has overlapped substantially diamond-shaped front portions, as clearly illustrated at 15 in FIGS. 1 and 3. These portions are relatively movable, except for their point of attachment, as at 16. Stitched to the inner surface of the lower edge portions of the front and rear panels 10 and 11 and the sides 12 is an elastic 17, shown, in section, in FIG. 3 and, in part, in FIGS. 1 and 2.
Patented Apr. 6, 1965 construction shown, I have diagrammatically illustrated at 22 in FIGS. 1 and 3 a seam for joining the front and rear portions. Stitched to side edges of the bands 20, 21
are similar panty sides 23, the stitchings being diagrammatically illustrated at 24 in FIG. 5 of the drawing. It will clearly appear, from FIG. 5, that the rear band portion 21 is slightly wider than the front band portion 20. The bands 20, 21, when joined at 22, form, below the sides 23, a crotch portion, shown, in part, at 25 in FIG. 1 of the drawing. Fixed to sides of the crotch portion and lower curved edges of the sides 23 are elastics shown, in part, at 26 in FIGS. 1 and 2 of the drawing. These elastics border what will constitute the leg openings 27 of the panty. The upper edges of the band portions 20, 21 are angularly contracted, as indicated at 20 and 21' in dotted lines in FIGS. 1 and 2 of the drawing, and these edges are stitched to the front and rear panels, as diagrammatically seen at 28 and 29 in FIG. 3 of the drawing. The upper edges of the panty sides 23 are similarly stitched to the sides 12 and these upper edges are angularly contracted to sides of the girdle, as diagrammatically illustrated by the dotted lines 30 in FIG. 1 and the dotted lines 31 in FIG. 2. It will, thus, be apparent that the panty 19, or the upper edge thereof, is fixed to the body portion of the girdle, comprising the panels 10 and 11 and the sides 12 in irregular lines, as noted above, which provide high supports for the panty centrally of the front and back of the girdle and at sides of the girdle.
In production of the girdle, the various parts, aside from the elastics employed, can be composed of different types and kinds of materials and, in illustrating one combination, the front panel 10 can be non-extensible or nonstretchable material; whereas, the back panel 11 can comprise a material which is extensible in the vertical direction and non-extensible circurnferentially of the girdle. The sides 12 are preferably formed of all-way stretch material and this is also true of the panty sides 23 and the material of 23 can be the same as the material employed in the sides 12, or contrasting thereto as to texture. The panty 1? and its front and rear band portions 20, 21 are preferably formed of an all-way stretch material of a different characteristic than that in the sides 12 and a material such as I-Ielenca is preferable. In the use of the girdle, it will be understood that the panty sides 23 are movable independently of the girdle body sides 12. It also follows that the panty bands 20 and 21 are capable of movement independently of the sides 23.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A girdle of the character defined comprising a girdle body having front and rear panels and side portions fixed to side edges of said panels, a panty arranged within the body of the girdle, the panty comprising a central band of substantially the same width throughout the major portion of its length, ends of the band terminating in outwardly contracted end portions, said contracted end portions being stitched to the front and rear panels, the panty including side portions stitched to side edges of said panty 2,123,848 7/38 Gordon 128547 2,441,451 5/48 Smith 128528 4 2,661,002 12/53 Silverman 128-526 2,983,924 5/61 Cohen et a1. 128-528 3,035,585 5/62 Neiman 128-524 FOREIGN PATENTS 502,339 5/54 Canada.
