Description

(No Model.)
G. GESSNER.
HEATING APPARATUS.
Patented Apr. 28,1885.
WITNESSES:
INVENTOR W i ATTORNE rtur trier,
GEORGE GESSNER, OF CUMBERLAND, MARYLAND.
H EATING APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 316,772, dated April 28, 1885.
Application filed January 27, 1885.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE Gnssnnn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cumberland, in the county of Alleghany and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating Apparatus; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a perspective view of the top of a stove provided with my improved heating apparatus, showingaportion ofthe floor above the stove broken away; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate correponding parts in both the figures.
My invention has relation to heating apparatus for stoves, by means of which a room above the room in which the stove is placed maybe heated; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the upper part of the stove, which may be of any desired construction, and the top of which is removed, and in place of which top the downwardly'projecting flange B of a dished plate, 0, is inserted into the open top portion of the stove. This plate is provided at its edge above the downwardly-projecting flange with an outwardly-projecting oblique flange, D, which has a number of perforations, E, which may, if desired, be provided with a register-plate, F, for closing them. Aflat conical shield, G, is secured with its lower edge to the edge of the perforated flange, and has, preferably, a flange or ring, H, secured around the joined edges, serving to catch and turn the heat (No model.)
passing through its sides near the end, which 7 rod prevents the next piece of pipe from entering the said end too far. It will thus be seen that the heated air surrounding the stove will ascend through the perforations E into the drum, where it will be furthermore heated, and at last pass out through the register at the top of the drum.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States.
The combination, with a stove, of a heating apparatus consisting of a dished bottom having a flange fitting into the open top of the stove, and having an oblique register-flange at its lower edge, a flat conical shield fitting with itslower edge upon the edge of the register-flange, a flange secured projecting downwardly at the joined edges of the shield and bottom, a drum projecting upward from the top of the shield and provided with a register-plate at its top, and a stove-pipe projecting from the open center of the dished bottom through the drum and through the side of the same, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE GESSNER.
