SPECIFMJATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 338,954, dated March 30, 1886.
Application filed May 12, 1885. Serial No. 165,227.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAMIAN HABIG, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Cumberland, in the county of Alleghany and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to that class of stoves commonly known as heating-drums, which are adapted to heat a room or rooms above the one in which the stove is located; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of a heating-drum of the above-described class, which will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed outin the claim.
Referring to the annexed drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved heating-drum, with portions of the outer casing broken away the better to illustrate the con struction of the several parts; and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on line w x in Fig. 1.
The same letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Referring to the several parts by letter, A represents the body of the stove proper, upon and in the open top of which fits the lower end of the heating-drum B, the said drum being of a less diameter than the top of the stove, and is inclosed by the outer casing, O, which is provided at a point near the bottom of the said drum with a series of apertures, c, which serve to admit the air into the space between the heating drum and the said outer casing.
A top plate, D, is placed upon the upper end of the outer casing, and serves to support the hot-air pipe E, which conveys the heated air from the space between the heating-drum and the outer casing, G, to the room or rooms above,which it is desired to heat.

G G G represent three small smoke-pipes, which lead, respectively, from the side of the stove proper, the side of the heating-drum, and the top of the said drum, the opening into each of these pipes being controlled by a valve or damper, g g g, so that any one of the said smoke-pipes may be used, according to the location of the flue-hole in the chimney.
The heat, smoke, and flames from the body of the stove pass up into the heating-drum, and finally out through one of the beforementioned smoke pipes, the heat radiated from the heating-drum serving to heat the air in the space surrounding the said drum, which then ascends up through the liotair pipe E, to heat the room or rooms above, which it is desired to heat, the cold air from the exterior of the stove rushing in through the series of apertures c to lill the vacuum thus created, and in turn becoming heated, to ascend through the hot-air pipe, thus creating a continual current of hot air up through the hot-air pipe.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of my improved heating-drum will be readily understood without requiring further explanation.
It will be seen that my invention is very simple in construction, and at the same time exceedingly efficient in its operation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In an attachment for stoves, the combination, with an outer casing having a series of perforations between two swaged beads, and a perforated cover provided with a hot-air pipe leading therefrom, of a flaring shield fitting said outer casing, covering the said perforations, aninward'ly-extending lip provided with an upwardly-extending flange secured to saidoute'r casing below said series of per- 5 forations, and a bottomless heating'drum fitting upon said flange, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
