CYLINDER FOR CLOVER-'HULLERS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 316,308, dated April 21, 1885.

Be it known that I, FREDERICK STRoBEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Marion, in the county of Marion and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cylinders for Glover-Hullers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved cylinder for clover-hullers. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of one of the sections composing the same. Fig. 8 is alongitudinal sectional view of the said part or section, and Fig 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line a; m in Fig, 3.

The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.

My invention has relation to cylinders for clover-hullers; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

In the drawings hereto annexed, A designates the frame of my improved cylinder, which consists of a series of parallel beams or bars, B B, secured to and connected by suitable heads or ends, 0 O, to which the said beams or bars are equidistantly secured by means of bolts, or in any other suitable manner.

D is one of the cylinder-sections, which consists of a curved plate or casting the ends of which are provided with flanges E E, having perforations F to receive bolts whereby it may be connected to the cylinder-frame. The outer convex side of the said plate or casting is provided with longitudinal ridges G G, arranged parallel to each other, and having vertically-corrugated sides. The said ridges are subdivided by central grooves, H, into sections I I, the face of each of which is provided with a sharp notch, J, whereby it is rendered more effective in use.

The sections D D, of which any suitable or desirable number may be used, are to be bolted or otherwise secured to the frame in alter-- nating rows substantially as secured in Fig. l of the drawings. This device is best adapted for use in connection with the concave for which I have made application for Letters Patent at the time of filing this application; and its uses and advantages will not fail to be understood by those skilled in the art to which it appertains Without further description.

Having thus described my invention,I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. In a cylinder for clover-hullers, the combination, with a suitable frame, of the hereindescribed sections, consistingof curved plates having longitudinal vertically corrugated ridges provided with central transverse grooves, and having sharp notches in' their outer edges or faces, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination, with the cylinderframe consisting of a series of parallel equidistant bars and suitable heads or ends, of the toothed sections consisting of curved plates having perforated flanges and bolts whereby they are attached to the bars of the frame, said toothed plates being attached to the frame in alternate intersecting rows, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
