FREDRIGK STROBEL, OF MARION, OHIO.
CONCAVE FOR CLOVER-HULLERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 318,825, dated May 26, 1885.
Application filed January 12, 1885. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDRICK STROBEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Marion, in the county of Marion and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Ooncaves for Clover-Hullers; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of my improved concave for clover-hullers. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 isa longitudinal vertical sectional view taken on the line a: a" in Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 1 y in The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.
This invention relates to concaves for cloverhullers; and it has for its object to provide a concave which may be constructed in a series of comparatively small sections adapted. to be bolted or otherwise secured to a suitable bed, and which generally shall possess superior advantages in point of simplicity, durability, and general efficiency.
\Vith these ends in view the invention consists in the improved construction and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A desig nates one of the sections of my improved concave. This consists of a concavo-convex bed plate or casting, the ends of which are provided with downwardly-extending flanges B B, and the upper concave side of which has a series of transverse ribs, 0 G. The upper side of the bedplate B is provided with a number of teeth, D D, each consisting of a longitudinal ridge having vertically-corrugated sides, and the upper edges of which are concave or curved, being concentric with the base-plate,
or nearly so. These teeth or ridges are arranged in alternate longitudinal rows, those of one row intersecting those of the next adjoining ones, as shown. the ridgesare made in cross-section of the shape of a narrow truncated cone, or wider at the base than at the top. In the construction of the concave a series of the sections A are bolted or otherwise suitably secured to a bed consisting of a pair of parallel beams, E E, the edges of which are provided with grooves G G, to receive the flanges B B of the bed-plates, which are thereby retained securely in line as adjusted.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed, the operation and advantages of this invention will be readily understood. The construction is simple and inexpensive; the concave being made in comparatively small sections enables injury to any one section to be easily and inexpensively repaired, and the construction of the device, as described, with the corrugated teeth or ridges renders the operation very effective.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States In a concave for cloverhullers, the bedbeanis having grooved edges, in combination with the plates or sections of concavo-convex shape, provided at their front and rear edges with downwardly-extending flanges, and having their upper concave sides'provided with transverse ribs and longitudinal teeth or ridges arranged in alternating or intersecting rows, said ridges being wider at the base than at the top, provided with corrugated sides and having concave top edges, substantiallyas and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' FREDRIOK STROBEL.
I'Vitnesses:
J. E. DAVIES, J. L. WILsoN.
