Definitions

  • this invention relates to a street sweeper having new and improved mechanisms for dumping a dirt hopper at a street level position or at an elevated position to permit sweepings to be loaded into a truck standing by or to be stacked in large rather than small piles. Still another important object of this invention is to provide a street sweeper which can also be operated as a front end loader for loading the sweepings directly into a truck.
  • a very important object of this invention is to provide a street sweeper having a front end unloader which has excellent stability during the dumping cycle without requiring any counterbalancing of the load in the dirt hopper.
  • a still further object of this invention is to provide a street sweeper with a front end unloader whereby the dirt hopper can be raised to an elevated position and then moved through an are away from the sweeper so that the sweepings can be dumped as the gravity actuated door is swung open.
  • An important object of this invention is to provide a new and improved dirt hopper handling mechanism which is of compact construction so as to occupy the smallest possible area in order that a larger sized dirt hopper can be used.
  • Another important object of this invention is to provide a new and improved dirt hopper handling mechanism which will not interfere with the operators view and which can be operated to unload a dirt hopper from an elevated position or at ground level.
  • Yet another important object of this invention is to pro- H vide a new and improved street sweeper which is of such construction so as to permit the operator to elevate the dirt hopper from the operators seat so that the operator can then visually determine whether the dirt hopper is fully loaded.
  • the operator wishes-todetermine whether the dirt hopper is fully loaded, it has been necessary for him to step down off the sweeper and open a side door in the dirt box in order to inspect the contents of the hopper.
  • our sweeper is provided with a dirt hopper which can be used as a front end loader by operation of a new and improved dirt hopper handling mechanism. It is now possible with our new sweeper to unload a filled dirt hopper into a truck or on the street in the area being swept so that the sweeper can be continuously used as a sweeper for longer periods.
  • the dirt can be dumped until a truck becomes available at which time the dirt hopper can be utilized as a front end loader to pick up and load the previously dumped sweepings into the truck.
  • the dirt hopper handling mechanism includes a pair of dirt hopper carrying beams on opposite sides of the dirt box and means for elevating the dirt hopper carrying beams and means carried by the beams for rotating the dirt hopper to unload the same.
  • the means for elevating the dirt hopper carrying beam and the means carried by the beam for rotating the dirt hopper are all disposed in a common vertical plane so as to occupy the least possible amount of space in order that the capacity of the dirt hopper may be maintained as large as possible.
  • the dirt hopper is provided with a sweepings inlet that is partially defined by a scoop so that when the dirt hopper is rotated, the dirt hopper can be used as a front end loader.
