Description

UNITED STATES PATENT Oinilct:o
PHILIP WEISS, OF SAN FBANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
PASTE-HOLDER.
PCIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 315.195, dated April 7, 1885.
i Application liled Jnly, 1884. (No model.)
To all whomI it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP WEIss, a citizenof the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Paste Holder, of which the following is a Specification.
My invention relates to improvements in paste-holders for lpasting labels, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters marked thereon.
Figure 1 is an isometrieal birdls eye perspective view; Fig. 2, a plan view; Fig. 3, an end elevation; Fig. 4, a longitndinal sectional elevation showing the same out through the dotted lines a a,-- and Fig. 5 is a plan view of the Spring paste-brush cleaner.
The following is the construction of the same, onsisting of a two-compartment box.
A represents the paste-chamber; B, the wa ter-chamber; O, the pasting-tablet and sliding cover; D, the removable spring brush-cleaner; F,the guideseleats and holders G,the socket for the Spring brush-cleaner; H, the paste-brnsh; J, the lngs for holding or attaching the whole to a board or counter; K, the legs for snpporting the outer end of thepasting tablet or cover; L, the discharge Opening or Spont for the Water-Chamber B. The catch and stop bar M is designed to assist in distributing the paste properly in the brush for pasting the labels smoothly.
I manufacture the box or holder of porce lain or sheet metal, or any suitable material.4 When made of porcelain, the cover or pastingtablet is made of the same material; but when metal is employed in constructing the same I coat the top or cover With plasterof-paris and varnish it to give it a Smooth surface, so as to secure a nice Smooth pasting-tablet. The paste-box is held in place by means of the legs J, which fit down upon pivots arranged at the required points. I sometimes hinge these legs to the Sides of the pastechamber, so that they may be folded up against the side to render the packing more convenient. I form the brush-clamp of Spring-metal, open at the end, as shown in Fig. 5. It is passed into the mortise G, and the open end is Sprung together until it will pass in between the cleats or lugs F. It is thus held perfectly in place, and may be readily taken out and replaced. The back or outer support, K, for the cover or pastingtablet O, I form of any suitable light material, such as spring-wire or a light metal Strip.
In pasting labels l withdraw the cover or tablet until the stop-bar M stops against the wall of the paste chamber. The outer end, resting upon the board or table, retains it in a horizontal position, as shown in Figs. 2,3, and 4. The pasEe-chamber being supplied with paste, the label is placed upon the cover or tablet O, and the brush is taken from the water-Chamber B, where it is usually kept When not in use, which keeps it alwaysin asoft and pliable Condition, besides allowing the paste to be covered.
Whenever the Water in the water-Chamber B becomes too thick with paste, it is drawn off at the spout L and refilled with clear water.
Having thus described my invention, What I c1aim,and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is-
The paste-holder herein described, consisting of a two-compartment box having a paste- Chamber, A, provided with a socket, G, and guide-cleats F, for holding the removable Spring brush-cleaner D, and the water-chamber B, having discharge-opening L, the box being provided with the sliding cover and pasting-tablet O, having catch M and legs K, as set forth.
PHILIP WEISS.
