UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN E. SOHREOK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PERFORATED GLASS PLATE FOR MAKING MEDICINAL TABLETS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 315,173, dated April 7, 1885.
Application filed January 12, 1885.
To asZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. SOHREOK, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Perforated Glass Plates for Making Medicinal Tablets, of which the following is a specification.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of one of my improved perforated glass plates. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the plate. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a plate provided with pins for removing the tablets from the glass plate.
The object of this invention is to provide, and consists in, perforated plates for making medicinal tablets, made of glass, to prevent the said plates from being affected by the acids or quicksilver contained in the medicinal ingredients of the said tablets, as will be hereinafter fully described, and then claimed.
A represents a glass plate of any convenient size, and through which are formed any desired number of perforations B of such a diameter as will form tablets of the desired The length of the tablets is limited by the thickness of the plate A.
Plates of various thicknesses are designed to be used, so that tablets can be made containing any desired amount of the medicine.
In the glass plate A, near its edges, are
formed three (more or less) holes, 0, to receive guide-pins for centering the said perforated plate A upon the discharge-plate D.
The dischargeplate D can be made of hard rubber or other suitable material, and is provided with pins E, corresponding in number, position, and size with the holes Bin the plate A, and of a length sufficient to extend through the said plate. The discharge-plate D is also (No model.)
provided with pins F, corresponding in numher, position, and size with holes 0 in the .5
plate A, and of a length greater than the thickness of the said plate, so that the pins F will enter the holes 0 and center the plate A, and cause it to move downward in such a position that the pins E will enter the holes 0 with certainty. The plate D can be provided with another pin, G, outside of the part covered by the plateA, to serve as a handle in handling the said plate D.
In using the plate A for making medicinal tablets the medicated mass properly prepared is spread over the surface of the plate A and pressed into the holes B with a spatula until the said holes are filled, and both sides of the said plate are then scraped off. The plate A is then placed over the plate D,with the guidepins E in the holes 0, and is pressed downward until the pins E enter the holes 13 and force the tablets out of the said holes in perfeet form.
I am aware that perforated plates made of hard rubber and gold-plated metal have been used for making medicated tablets; but these plates are objectionable, from the fact that quicksilver and acid ingredients in the medicated mass will act upon the said plates and so affect them in a short time as to prevent them from operating properly. Therefore I do not claim a perforated plate, broadly; but,
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A glass plate provided with perforations for making medicinal tablets, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the said plate will be unaffected by quicksilver and acid ingredients in the medicated mass, as set forth.
JOHN E. SCHREGK.
