Description

B. F. GOPP. DENTAL INLAY HOLDER. Arrummon nun JUL! 2, 1909.
Patented N019, 1909.
provided, in its projecting BENJAMIN F. COPP, DE LAS CRUC'ES, TERRITORY EW MEXICO.
, DENTAL IN LAY-HOLDER application filed .nn ie, 1909. seriiiao. 505,705.
To all 11:71 am it may concern."
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. Come, a citizen of the United States, residing at Las Cruces, in the county of Dona Ana and Territory of New Mexico, have invented a new and useful Dental Inlay-Holder, ofwhich the following is a Specification.
The objects of'the invention are, generally, the provision, in a merchantable form, of a device of the, class which shall be inexpensive to manufacture, facile in operation, and devoid of complicated parts; specifically, theprovision of an implementadapted to hold crowns, fillings, and the like, while the same are being polished or subjected to other mechanical manipulation, the implement being so constructed that it will firmly hold the substance which is being worked, without scratchii'ig or mutilating the same; other and further objects being made manifest hereinafter, as the description of the invention progresses.
The invention consists in the novel arrangement and construction of parts hereinaftcrdeseribed, delineated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointcd out in that portion of this instrument wherein patcntable novelty is claimed for certain peculiar and distinctive features of the device, it being understood that, within the scope of what hereinafter thus is claimed, divers changes in theform, proportions, size, and minor details of the structure may be made, without departingirom the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention. i
Similar numerals of reference are employed to denote correspondin parts throughout the several figures 0f the rawings:
In the accompanyin r drawings :--F,igure 1 is a longitudinal section, arts being in elevation; Fig. 2 is an end eliavation or the handle and the tube, the adhesive element being removed; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of a modified form oi. the invention, parts being in elevation.
In carrying out my invention, I provide, primarily, a holder consisting of a handle 1, in one end of which is mounted a tube 2, arranged to project beyond the handle 1, and portion, with a above mentioned,
. W, Specification of Letters Patent.
I the adhesive member,
Patented Nov. 9, 19%9.
plurality of apertures 3. Mounted upon the end of the tube 2 is an adhesive member 4c- This adhesive member t may befashioned from wax, cement, or other like substance, adapted to hold firmly the element which is to be manipulated, the same in the present instance being shown in the form of a crown 5, provided with a pin 6.
The adhesive member at may be fashioned from any cement, wax, or modeling compound, and its structure may be such that itwill soften u )011 the application of heat. WVhen thus soitcned, the crown, or other element which is to be polished is inserted into and the crown and the adhesive member introduced into cold water, to harden the adhesive member about the crown. After the adhesive member has thus hardened, the crown may be polished or otherwise manipulated.
The apertures 3 in the tube 2 serve to engage the adhesive member 4, and to permit the same, when heated, or otherwise softened to find itsway into the interior of the tube 2, whereby the adhesive member and the tube may be rigidly assembled.
The device is, as hereinbefore pointed out, adapted to hold a variety of articles for mechanical mani ulation. However, owing to the tubular orm of the member 2, which the pin (5 is adapted to move, the device is peculiarly adapted for handling pin -owns, the cement or other substance con stituting the adhesive member, engaging the pin 6, and the inner walls of the member 2- The adhesive member 4 is preferably arranged toabut against the extremity of the mounted therein, this abutment between th member and the handle stiffening she structure, and tending to make the same rigid after the cement has hardened.
In Fig. 3, I have shown a slight pnodification of the invention, the same consisting in cutting away a portion of the side wall of the tube 2, as denoted by the numeral 8. The advantages incident to this construction are that the device is thus adapted to conform to the shape of an anterior crown 7.;
Having thus described my invention, what: I claim new and desire to protect, by Letters- Patent is':--
handle 1, about the tube 2 which into adhesive 1. A device of the class described comprising a tube and an adhesive member mounted uponthe tube. v
2. A device of the class described compris- 5ing a perforated tube and an adhesive men ber mounted upon the tube and arranged to i engage the perforations thereof.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto :nfixed my signature in the presence of two witncssce.
