Description

(No Model.)
A. BAUS.
AGRAPFE FOR PIANOS. 4 No. 314,310. Patented Mar. 24, 1885.
WITNESSES INVENTOR ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES AUGUSTUS BAUS, OF NEW YORK, N.
Y., ASSIGNOR TO AUGUSTUS BAUS &
(30., OF SAME PLACE.
AGRAFFE F SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Application liled May To on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS BAUS, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Agraffe, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved agraffe which is so constructed that under no circumstances the strings can slip in the same, and are at all times held firmly and securely, and by thus securely holding the said strings the tuningpins are relieved of a part of the immense strain they are subjected to in pianos of the usual construction, and thereby necessitating less frequent tuning of the instrument. The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate colresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a face View of my improved agraffe. Fig. 2 is a side view, parts being broken out and others shown in section; and Fig. 3 is a face view of an agraffe for double strings, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of an agraffe for treble strings.
A cylindrical head, A, formed on the up OR PIANOS.
Patent. No. 314,310, dated March 24, 1885.
26, 1884. (N0 model.)
is provided with a vertical groove or recess,
D, forming two upwardly-projecting prongs,
E and E. In each prong E or E one, two,
or three apertures, a. are formed, according 5 to the number of strings the agraft'e is to hold. The apertures a in the two prongs are arranged at dilferent elevations, and the apertures are inclined, as shown. The outer ends of the apertures a are widened or enlarged, as shown, 40 so as to prevent cutting the strings.
The agratfes are screwed into the wrestplank or into the metal plate, the agratfes screwed into the wrest-plank having long screws and those screwed into the plate hav- 5 ing short screws.
The strings being held in both prongs cannot slip, and are at all times held taut and firmly.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent An agraffe having two prongs, each provided with an inclined aperture or inclined apertures, the central axes of the two corresponding apertures in two prongs being on one and the same line, substantially as herein shown and described.
AUGUSTUS BAUS.
