UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY W. BLOOD, OF FBEDONIA, NEV YORK.
`WAGON-TOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 314,098, dated March 17, 1885.
Application filed August 29, 1884, (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Beit known that LHENRY W. BLOOD, a citizen ofthe United States, and aresident of Fredonia, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon-Tops; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specitication, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a wagontop provided with my improved rein-holder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line a; x, Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale of the preferred construe tionof curtain.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the gures.
My invention has relation to rein-holders for so-called stationary-top vehicles;7 and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of such a rein-holder, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A which frame the bows B are secured, the inner sides of which bows are provided with grooves C, which are continued in ways D under the roof E, and the flexible Slat-curtains AF slide in these grooves and ways, the ways under the roof allowing one curtain to slide under the other.
G are curved flanged ways secured to the rear bows and to the inner bows of the top, and the rear curtain, H, slides in these ways under the root'.
I is the dash-board, which is secured to the front end of the bottoni frame by means ot' standards or brackets J, which are cnt off beveled or inclined at their inner edges, so as to form narrow tapering spaces between the said standards and the legs or lower ends of f the front bow, and these tapering spaces serve to receive the reins, which may be securely clamped and held in them, avoiding the necessity of having a separate rein-holder of a 5o more complicated and expensive nature.
It follows that the construction of the top as herein described is not essential to the working of the rein-holder, although I prefer to construct the top as described, and I am y aware that wagon-tops have been made with sliding curtains, and I make no claim for the top; but
The combination, with the front bows,ot`the 6o brackets J ior the dash-board, cut off inclined or beveled upon the inner edges of their upper portions to form tapering rein-holders, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as T my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY lV. BLOOD.
