(Cl. 24-230) This invention relates to improvements in shoe fastening devices and more particularly to a novel shoe fastening device of the spring clip type.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which can very easily and quickly be released or secured in a single operation.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type wherein a pair of spring arms will normally spread to engage in a pair of keepers to fasten a shoe or the like.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of a shoe equipped with a pair of shoe fastening devices embodying the invention.
FIG. 2 is a fragmentary plan view of the shoe and the device.
FIG. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 3-3 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 4 is an exploded view of the elements of the device.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral refers to a conventional low shoe, having opposite flaps 11 and 12 of the shoe upper. A portion of elastic 13 is sewed as at 14 to the upper flap 11, and has secured thereto by appropriate means 15 a spring clip element 16 which is formed of a pair of coil elements 17 and 18 joined by a transverse portion 19, and having the extended spring rod portions 20 and 21, each terminating in an eye 22. A keeper 23 is secured to flap 12 by rivet or other means 24 and has the opposed keeper hook elements 25 and 26.
One or more of the fastening devices may be used on ice a shoe, and in FIG. 1 a pair of the devices is employed. In use, the rod portions 20 and 21 are compressed together manually to free them from the keeper hook elements 25 and 26 to unfasten the shoe, and a similar operation will engage said hook elements to fasten said shoe. The flaps 11 and 12 are held together lay the combined action of the elastic element 13, and the rod portions 20 and 21 engaged within the keeper hook elements 25 and 26.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
In combination with a shoe having flaps, a spring rod element formed with two loops, a transverse rod portion connecting said loops on a plane therewith, said transverse portion and the loops attached to the free end of an elastic band, said band anchored to a flap of said shoe, a pair of straight rods integral with said loops and extending away and in alignment with said elastic band, said rods being spring-pressed for spreading engagement and arced to approximate the transverse contour of the shoe at the flap zone, a pair of eyes in the ends of said rods, a keeper plate on the opposite flap of said shoe, and upward and inturned ends on said keeper plate for retention of the spreading ends of said rod elements.
