FRANK BOWMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TEMPORARY BINDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 313,574, dated March 10, 1885.
Application filed November 8, 1883. (No model.)
. its objects to provide a binder that shall be easily inserted in or. removed from a suitable cover, and also a means whereby the recruit or filler may be easily secured to the binder proper, and be quicky removed, when it is desirable to renew the same.
The above-mentioned objects I attain by thev means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved binder, showing the same open with the filler attached; Fig. 2, a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of a modification of my binder and filler; Fig. 4, a longitudinal sectional view of such modification, and Fig. 5 a detached perspective view of aseries of secret pockets employed in connection with the binder.
The letter A indicates the cover, which is constructed of leather, cloth, or other suitable material, folded midway between the two ends into a form similar to a book-cover. To one of the leaves of the cover thus formed is attached, by cement or in any other suitable manner, one leaf of a folded sheet, 13, forming the binder, the fold of which sets in the fold of the cover, as clearly shown in the drawings. The other leaf of the said binder is free, and is adapted to be secured temporarily in a pocket, 0, formed in the leaf of the cover opposite to that to which the leaf of the binder B is cemented. The said binder B at its fold is perforated at suitable points, through which a tape or cord may be passed, to secure the filler or recruit D, consisting of sheets of paper or other fabric folded as indicated,-and perforated to correspond with the perforations in the binder B before mentioned.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings both leaves of the cover are formed with internal pockets similar to the pocket above mentioned, and the binder B is arranged so that its leaves may be inserted and held temporarily in each; or the binder B may have substituted for it an elongated binder, H, provided with a series of secret or supplemental pockets, and perforated and notched similarly to the binder B, and adapted to take its place,
serving to hold the filler or recruit, and serve to receive memoranda or other papers and hold the same securely.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A temporary binder having apertures at its fold and notches at the sides thereof, through which a cord or tape may be passed to secure a filler or recruit to it, as and for the purpose specified.
2. In combination with a pocketed cover, a temporary binder having its sides or flaps contained in the pockets of the cover, the said binder also being provided with secret pockets, and adapted to have removably secured to it a filler or recruit.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. I
FRANK BOWMAN.
