- This invention rel-ates to a forging machine in which the tool carriers consist of connecting rods which are spaced around the periphery of the workpiece and are driven by eccentrics or the like and which slide in radial guides of a suitably disc-shaped bearing body which is rotatable about the workpiece axis and particpates in the swing movement of the connecting rods.
- the disc-shaped bearing body has been freely rotatable and has only been driven by the connecting rods themselves to perform an oscillating swing movement about the workpiece axis. This guidance and mounting of the connecting rods has proved satisfactory because the construction is extremely simple. Nevertheless the known construction requires improvement.
- the invention resides essentially in that the bearing body has an oscillating drive imparted thereto from the eccentric heads of the connecting rods.
- the connecting rods have no longer the function of driving the bearing body during their swing movement but merely perform a reciprocating movement in a guide which performs inherently the same movement as the connecting rods so that there can be no canting and the wear of the guides in the bearing body and the connecting rods is minimized.
- a particularly simple construction for the drive of the bearing bodies from the eccentric heads is obtianed by rigidly afiixing forked drivers to the bearing body, the prongs of which slide on opposite guide faces of the eccentric head which are parallel to the connecting rod.
- These drivers may be removable to enable their replacement.

- a rotary adjustment of the bushings 3 will displace the axes of the shafts 1 so that the stroke position of the connecing rods 4 and with it the depth of penetration of the tools (not shown) which can be affixed to the free end of the connecting rod, into the workpiece can be varied.
- the workpiece is fed in a vertical direction between the hammers formed by the connecting rods 4 and the tools and may be rotated about its axis at the same time.
- a two-part, ring-shaped bearing body 5 is mounted in the forging box 2 for rotation about the workpiece axis.
- This bearing body 5 has radial guides 6 for slidably receiving the connecting rods.
- the bearing body 5 has forklike drivers 7 rigidly affixed thereto, the prongs 8 of which slide on opposite guide faces 9 of the eccentric head 10, which guide faces are parallel to the connecting rod 4.
- a forging machine for a workpiece which comprises connecting rods adapted to carry tools, said connecting rods being spaced around the periphery of the workpiece and extending in a radial direction with respect to the workpiece axis, eccentrics, eccentric heads connecting said eccentrics to said connecting rods to impart to the latter an oscillating motion in peripheral and radial directions with respect to the workpiece axis, a bearing body mounted for rotation about the workpiece axis, radial guides mounted in said body and slidably receiving said connecting rods, and means for imparting to said bearing body an oscillating angular motion in unison with said motion of said connecting rods in said peripheral direction while enabling a movement of said connecting rods relative to said bearing body in said radial direction, said means comprsing forked drivers rigidly afiixed to said bearing body and having prongs, said eccentric heads being formed with opposite guide faces extending parallel to the respective connecting rod and slidably engaged by said prongs.
