(Cl. 37-189) This invention relates to a digging cribbing head device. It has for its objects to provide such a device that will be highly satisfactory for the purpose intended, simple in structure, comparatively cheap to manufacture, easy to keep in serviceable condition, and very durable.
Its main use is for digging out the material between the ends of crossties of a railroad track when such an operation becomes necessary. However, it is not limited to such use and may be used for other purposes.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the drawings and specification.
By referring generally to the drawings it will be observed that:
FIG. 1 is a side elevational view showing how the digging teeth are mounted on a shaft adapted to be revolved for use according to the present invention.
FIG. 2 is an end view to plainly show how the cutting teeth are partly controlled by springs.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged view of a cutting tooth or digger.
FIG. 4 is an edge view of FIG. 3.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring in detail to the drawings it will be seen that the device comprises a supporting main shaft 1 that is adapted for attachment by its ends 2 and 3 to a suitable power machine that will revolve it. Mounted in fixed condition on the shaft are a plurality of round plate parts 4 with attached pivot pins 5 on which brackets 6 are mounted partly swingable, and to which by bolts 7 the cutting teeth or diggers 8 are attached. There are cutting diggers mounted in between each pair of round plate parts in order to have three springs 9 attached in holes 10 near the cutting diggers and connect also the spring ends 11. Only one set of springs is shown in FIG. 2 to avoid confusion. The purpose of the springs is to avoid damage to a cutting digger if it should strike the end of a crosstie while being used as the springs would allow the cutting digger to move backward and slide over the obstruction.
From the foregoing it will appear that the device is especially adapted for being removably attached by its main shaft ends to any suitable machine for the purpose of being moved along near the side of a railroad track so that the revolving teeth will dig out the earth or other material between the ends of the crossties. While such is its special purpose, it could be used for other purposes.
The device may be made of any material suitable for its purpose, but I prefer to use good grades of metal. Also it may be made in different sizes and capacities.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to limit same to the exact and precise details of structure, and I reserve the right to make all modifications and changes so long as they remain Within the scope of the invention and the following claims.
Having described my invention I claim:
1. A digging cribbing head device comprising, a main supporting round metal shaft, said shaft being adapted to be revolved by an independent source of power, a plurality of round metal flat plates, these plates being mounted in fixed positions upon said shaft with equal spaces between each two of said plates, a plurality of short metal brackets, each pair of said plates having three of said short brackets supported between them, a plurality of similar comparatively long and bent metal parts with their ends formed as diggers, each of said short brackets having three holes therethrough, said digger parts having their inner ends connected to said short brackets by bolts, a plurality of similar pivot pins, said three short brackets being mounted partly revolvable on said pins; three similar springs, these springs having connecting means as eyes integral in their ends, these springs being set in contracting tension with their connecting means inserted in holes in the end portions of said brackets to which the said digger parts are bolted.
2. A digging device for digging out material between the ends of railroad crossties comprising, a main round shaft, this shaft having means for removable attachment to an independent power machine for the purpose of being revolved for use, a plurality of an equal number of round flat metal plates, each of said plates having in its center a hole of a size to fit upon said round shaft and be attached thereto, said plates being positioned upon the shaft with equal space between them, a plurality of short metal brackets, each pair of said plates having three of said short brackets supported between them, a plurality of similar comparatively long and bent metal parts with their ends formed as diggers, each of said short brackets having three holes therethrough, said digger parts having their inner ends connected to said short brackets by bolts, a plurality of similar pivot pins, said three short brackets being mounted partly revolvable on said pins; three similar springs, these springs having connecting means as eyes integral in their ends, these springs being set in contracting tension with their connecting means inserted in holes in the end portions of said brackets to which the said digger parts are bolted.

1. A DIGGING CRIBBING HEAD DEVICE COMPRISING, A MAIN SUPPORTING ROUND METAL SHAFT, SAID SHAFT BEING ADAPTED TO BE REVOLVED BY AN INDEPENDENT SOURCE OF POWER, A PLURALITY OF ROUND METAL FLAT PLATES, THESE PLATES BEING MOUNTED IN FIXED POSITIONS UPON SAID SHAFT WITH EQUAL SPACES BETWEEN EACH TWO OF SAID PLATES, A PLURALITY OF SHORT METAL BRACKETS, EACH PAIR OF SAID PLATES HAVING THREE OF SAID SHORT BRACKETS SUPPORTED BETWEEN THEM, A PLURALITY OF SIMILAR COMPARATIVELY LONG AND BENT METAL PARTS WITH THEIR ENDS FORMED AS DIGGERS, EACH OF SAID SHORT BRACKETS HAVING THREE HOLES THERETHROUGH, SAID DIGGER PARTS HAVING
