UNITED STATES' 'WILLIAMy JOSEPH HIGKEY, `or' WEsTWoon, CALIFORNIA, AssIGNoIt 'ro JOHN n. srin'ns,
or Los ANGELES, CALIFORNIA. I
CLAMP FOR CONCRETE-CURBING FORMS.
Application filed August 5, 1926. Serial No. 127,321.
In this specification, and the accompanying drawing, I shall describe and show a preferred form of my invention, and specifically mention certain oi its more important objects. I do not limit myself to the forms disclosed, since various changes and adaptations may be made therein Without departing from the essence of my invention as hereinafter claimed; and objects and advantages,
l0 other than those specifically mentioned, are
included Within its scope.
My invention relates to means `tor supporting concrete form lumber and its principal object is to provide an improved clamp for this purpose that can be con vcnicntly applied and removed, and that is especially adapted for making straight and curved concrete curbing. Another object is to furnish ready means for adjustment wherebyv Walls or curbing of diii'erent thickness can be constructed with either straight or slopj ing faces. y
My objects are attained in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawing which is a perspective view of the complete invention.
My improved clamp comprises a pair of opposed upright stanchions 5 of T section, with their iianges 6 inside and their stems 3o extending outwardly. These stanchions are pivotally connected to a cross bar 7 at the top by means of bolts 8 and clamp nuts 9p For adjusting the spacing of stanchions at the top, the cross bar is provided with a plurality of round bolt holes as at 10, or with slotted bolt holes as at 11.
The cross bar overhangs the stanchions at each end and its extremities are connected to intermediate portions'of the respective stanchions by means of longitudinally extensible diagonal braces 12. These braces are pivotally connected to the cross bar and stanchions by means of rivets 13. and their length is adjusted by means of bolts 14; and
clamp nuts 15. Each of the brace bars is provided with guide lugs 16 at its extremity for engaging the edges of its cooperating bar. and the two bars of each brace are mutually guided in this manner to provide ex* tensibility. Bolts 14 pass through a hole in one of the brace bars and a slot 17 in the other.
The lower ends of the stanchions are slotted at 18 and are provided with vertically slidable drive pins 19 having rivets 20 passing through the slots. The drive pins are guided by the rivets and the iianges `6 against which they abut.` The upper ends of the drive pins are folded over as at 21 to form heads for hammer driving.
Each of the stanchions is provided With a slidable C clamp 22 engaging the edges of its iianges. These clamps have inwardly extending integral stems 23 which are slotted vertically at their ends. Jaw bars 24 engage these slots and are pivoted therein at 25. The upper ends of the jaw bars are tapped and provided with crank bolts 26 adapted to engage the stanchions. In this manner the form lumber indicated by dotted lines 27 can be clampedbetween the jaw `bars and the stanchions by tightening upthe crank bolts 26.
It Will be apparent from the foregoing description that to make use of my invention for curbing construction the lower ends of the stanchions are first placed upon the ground at the bottom of the excavated trench. The drive pins 19 are then driven down and serve to hold the stanchions in place. The form lumber is .then placed and held in position by means of jaw bars 24 and crank bolts 26. j
I particularly desire to emphasize that the several adjustments provided in my device enable it to be used for curbing or Walls of different thickness, and with either one or both faces of the Wall sloping at any desired angle. n
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim- I 1. A device of the character described comprising; a pair of upright stanchions; drive pins at the lower ends of the stanchions longitudinally slidable thereon and adapted for-extending therebelow; a cross barengaging the upper ends of the stanchions adapted lor variably spacing them; and releasable means for holding form material against the inner faces of the stanchions.
2. A device of the character described comprising; a pair of upright stanchions;
drive pins at the lower ends of the stan` chions longitudinally slidable thereon and adapted for extending therebelow; a cross lbar engaging the upper ends of the stanchions adapted for variably spacing them tand having overhanging extremities; and
diagonal braces of variable length pivotally connecting said extremities to intermediate portions of the adjacent stancliions.
3. The construction set forth in clailn 2 in combination with longitudinally slidable clamps on the stanchions adapted for holding forni material against the inner faces of the stanchions.
4c. The construction set forth in claim 2 in combination with longitudinally slid- 10 able clamps on the stanchions adapted for holding form material against the innex` Yfaces o1Y the stancliions; the engagement be tween the upper ends of the stanehions and cross bar being pivotal.
