SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 312,651, dated February 24, 1885. Application filed April 19, 1884. (N0 model To all whom it may concern-.-

Be it known that we, JoHN W. OWEN and WILLIAM H. OWEN, residents of Onarga, Iroquois county, Illinois, and ARTHUR U. Bos- WELL, of Fowler, in the county of Benton and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves; and We do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in'whioh I Figure l is a longitudinal vertical sectional View of our improvedwood-stove, and Fig. 2 is a crosssection of the same.

Our invention relates to that class of hori- :ltal stoves for burning wood in which a indicates the outer cylindrical casing of the stove, supported upon legs B, and having a door, 0, for feeding the fuel and for emptying the ashes at one of the heads D, which heads may be ornamented in any desirable manner. The upper side of the casing forms a longitudinal bulge, E, in the middle of which the stovepipe F opens, and which has, if desired, two or more or less apertures, G,

It will be seen that in this manner the smoke from the ignited fuel in the fire-place of the stove will pass into the fiat flue at its opening in the top of the stove, pass around the same, and pass into the stovepipe" at thetop of the stove, the drippings from the soot, which always accompany the smoke of burned wood. being collected in the trough at the top of the stove, doing away with the unsightly drip-pots usuallyhung under the pipes of a wood-stove. It will also be seen that a large amount'of the heat will be utilized by passing the products of combustion around the stove, allowing them time to give off some of their heat to the air surroundingthe stove, and that, if desired, the heat of the same may be used for cooking purposes at the same time that they heat the room, and that the cooking-vessels will not be subjected to the immediate flame of the fire, but will only be touched by the heated air and gases on their way to the stove-pipe. Ilaving thus described our invention, we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States The combination, in a horizontal stove, of an outer cylindrical casing formed with a longitudinal bulge atits top,having apertures for cooking-vessels and for the stove-pipe, with an inner casing opening at the top of the stove into the fire-place, passing around the inside of the outer casing parallel to the same, and
