UNITED STATES PATENT` OEEICE.
NELSON WATTS, OF DENYER, COLORADO, ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIRDS TO ROBERT S. PLATT, OF SAME PLACE. l
PARLOR COOK-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,249, dated June *6,1882,
l Application filed December 1B, 1880. (No model.) l
To all whom it may concern zen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county ot' Arapahoe and State of Oolorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Parlor Cook-Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, andtoletters oriiguresofreferencemarked thereon, which form a part of this speciiication.
My invention relates to certain improvements in parlor cook-stoves; and the novelty consists in the construction and arrangement of parts in relation to each other, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth,'and specifically pointed out in the claims.
The object of the invention is essentially to combine a parlor-stove 'with an efcient cook- 'stove in such a manner that while the device mosphere in the room-such as carbonio-acid the main flue or chimney-pipe.
gas-and convey them to the flue, Where they are consumed; and in certain advantages of construction.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal central section, illustrative of the main features ot' my device; Fig. 2, a side elevation, the dotted lines showing the vapor-dues; and Fig-3 is a detail plan view of the vapor-fines and their relation with Fig. 4t is a veri tical transverse section of the stove.
Referring to the drawings, similar letters of reference indicate like parts in all the figures.
A represents the stove proper, having a firebox or combustionchamber, A', a pivoted fthe cap i.
weighted grate, a hinged door, a3, to admit the fuel, an ash-pan, a', beneath the hearth a2, and readily removable at will. A plate, B, extends backward horizontally to form between said plate and the top B of the stove proper a co1nbustiontlue,b, which, by proper manipulation of a damper, connects with a return-nue, b, formed between the top of the oven and the said plate B, and this iiue extends entirely around the oven C and terminates in the main -iiue D in the chamber d.
The damper is of peculiar construction, is pivoted at c, and consists essentially of two approximately semicircular curves in one direction with an intervening curve in the opposite direction. As shown in Fig. 1, the heat is deflected around the oven, and the ends of the damper impinge upon the point c and the point of junction of iiue and top. When the damper is turned properly the return-flue b is closed, as seen in broken lines at c in Fig., l,
uand afree draft is opento the chimney or lnain iiue from ilue b.
E represents a dome, which is ot' double construction to form an intervening chamber, e, and which dome entirely covers the top ot' the stove and the cooking-vessels thereon, so that any cftluvia or vapor arisingffrom the cooking edibles will be conveyed to the ilueD through the pipes H and E( and prevent its escaping into the room. This dome has proper doors, and a shelf' or shelves, Gr,`for edibles, plates, or the like. The chamber e, which vis shown in the sections, surrounds the stove proper on the top, rear end, and sides for the purpose of coniinin g, in a measure, much of the heat of the stove, and by means of the con nection with the smokeepipe D to carry away the heated air when the stove is used for cook= ingin warm weather. In cold Weather the openings' to D may be closed and the hot air utilized for the heneiit of the room.
I represents a pipe or ue situated between the casing E and the stoveside opposite the side which has the oven-door. The lower end of tube I communicates with the outer4 air by the orifice z', Fig. 2, and this can be closed by The function of tube I is to draw from the room any noxious gases which by there is a draft into the smoke-pipo D.
F represents a hinged door in the combustion-chamber, through which the top of the oven may be cleaned of soot; and f, a door to clean the bottom Hue, b.
From the foregoing description the operation of my device is obvious.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of the cook-stove A, as shown, with the case E, dome E', and venttubes H H', as and for the purposes specified.
2. The dome E', vent-tubes H H', and vaportube I i, in combination with the ue D, as set t'orth, for the purposes specified.
3. In cooking-stoves, the combination ofthe pipes or lues I i, 1', H', and H, the dome over the stove, and the smoke flue or pipe D, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NELSON WATTS.
