SIPHON STOP-COCK AND BOTTLE-STOPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 312,600, dated February 24, 1885.
Application filed February 19, 1881. (Model) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC M. ABBOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Siphon Stop- Cocks and Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, Figure l is a sectional View of the upper portion of the siphon and its at tachments. Fig. 2 is a plan of the metallic securing-plate. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the rubber packing-ring. Fig. 4 is a vertical section of the perforated flanged cork or stopper. Fig. 5 represents the lower portion of the siphon-tube. Fig. 6 is a view of the hinged (1 mp. Fig. 7 represents a glass bottle with improved siphon attachments in position. Fig. 8 is a sectional detail showing the parts in position.

The siphon A is provided with a cock, B, and a perforated base'plate, D, as shown in Figs. 2, 7, and 8. Aglass tube, H, is inserted in the lower end of the metallic siphon-tube, and extends down into the bottle or other vessel. This tube H is surrounded at its upper end by a screw-threaded tube, I, over which is closely fitted a perforated flanged cork or stopper, G, composed of rubber or other suitable material.
Beneath the lower end of the stopper G, and elasping the tube I, is a close-fitting nut, E, composed of any suitable material. An elastic ring, F, is placed around the neckof the bottle immediately beneath its lip,and. forms a seat for the hinged clamp B. This ring breaks the force of the pressure of thefclamp while being drawn, and obviates any liability of breaking the neck of the bottle. Thehinged clamp B is provided with a set-screw, O, by
l which its parts are connected and secured around the neck of the bottle or vessel, being thus adapted to fit various sizes of the same. It also has on each side a lug provided with a vertical screw-stud, a, to which is attached a thumb-nut, A, as shown in Figs. 6, 7, and 8.

When the cork or stopper G is inserted in the neck of the bottle, the flanged portion of the stopper resting upon"the lip of the bottle, and the screw-studs a a of the adjustable hinged clamp B, engaging with the notches b b in the plate D, by simply turning down the thumb-nuts A A the parts will be firmly secured in the position shown in Figs. 7 and 8. By loosenlng the nuts A the parts may be readily detached when required.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is-
1. The combination, with the siphon-tubes A H and plate D, of the screw-threaded tube I, perforated flanged stopper G, and nut E, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination, with a bottle or simi lar vessel, of the siphon-tubes A H, plate D. having notches b I), perforated flanged stopper G, elastic ring F, and hinged clamp B, having setscrew O, and screw-studs a a, provided with thumb-nuts A A, substantially as shown and described.
3. The combination, with a bottle having a siphon stopcock and stopper, of the notched plate D, and hinged clamp B, having setscrew 0, screwstuds a a, and thumb-nuts A A, substantially as shown and described.
