WINDOW-FRAME.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters P Application filed September 13, 1884.

To all whom it mag concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY E. WILLER, a, citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of WVisconsip, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Frames and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this My invention relates to improvements in the construction and arrangement of windowframes, the sash-retaining beads, the blinds, and blind-retaining strips.

The objects of my improvements are to enable me to remove the sash-retaining beads andsash from the window-frame without removing the blind-retaining strips, and also to more permanently retain the inner edges) of the blind-retaining strip,'which is accomplished by the overlapping edges of the window-beads.

Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings represents a horizontal section of my improvements as used in connection with a box win- (low-frame for brick or stone buildings. Fig. 2 represents a horizontal section of my improvements in connection with a plank win= dow-frame for brick or stone buildings. Fig. 3 represents a horizontal section of my improvements in connection with a windowframe for a frame building.

The head J is of such width that its front edge projects forward slightly in front of the inner or back edge of the blind-strip I, whereby it covers up' the joint between the inner edge of said strip and the jarnb' and aids'in retaining said blind-strip in place.

WVhen the blind-strip is applied to that form of window-frames shown in Fig. 2, an additional piece or lining, K, isinterposed between the edge of the jamb A and the inner casing, D, as shown in said Fig. 2, back from the front surface of the jamb, to which piece K the waystrip I is affixed, whereby the inner edge of said way-strip is in like manner overlapped by the front edge of the bead J, as shown,while its front surface is set outward flush with the front surface of the jamb. When, however, a boxframe is used, as shown in Fig. 1, the inner end of the lining K is affixed by atongue-andgroove jointto the front wall,L, of the box,and extends forward, closing the space between said box and the inside casing, D,'and to this lining K, Iaffix my blind-strip I, as shown. In all cases it is obvious that the way-strip I is set back so that the front or outer surface is flush with the outer surface of the jamb, and the front edge of the bead J slightly overlaps the inner edge of the way-strip, whereby said head, when in place, assists in retaining the blind-strip, and whereby when said head is removed the sash may be removed from the window-frame without removing the waystrips, as mentioned.
