SLIDING WINDOW-BLIND.

Be it known that I, RoLLIN M. CLAPP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burlington, in the county of Ghittenden and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sliding .YVindow- Blinds, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the ac companying drawing.

My invention relates to improvements on sliding window-blinds; and the objects of my improvements are to so arrange and construct the ja'mbs for the stiles of the blindframe as to, first, avoid the necessity of the usual side bearing-springs to keep the frames in place, and, second,. to close the space which intervenes between the several blindframes, and thus prevent the passage of air or dust.

The drawing is a horizontal cross-section showing the relative position and construction of blinds and their jambs.

A A are the blind-jambs, which I prefer to make of separate strips to be attached to the ordinary window-jambs inside of the windowsash. B B are the window-blinds, which are so constructed that their respective widths decrease from the inside to the outside blind adjoining thewindow-sash, as shown in the drawing. I prefer to have three blinds to each window, as is customary, each one-third the height of the windowopening, and made so as to slide the entire length of the window-frame, so that light can be admitted from the bottom, center, or top of the window, as desired. The jambs A A are rabbeted, so as to receive the blinds, which are held in place by the stop-beads O C. These beads project somewhat beyond the exterior face of the rabbeted joint d of the jambs, to which they are removably attached by screws e, or otherwise, and have their exterior or projecting edges rounded. The stiles of the blinds are also rabbeted to receive the bead projections, which allows the exterior face of the blind-frame to touch the interior face of the frame of the blind adjacent to it, but so closely as to prevent or interfere with the free vertical movement of each blind. By this construction and arrangement of the blind -jambs the blindframes can be made to exactly fit and fill the space between the corresponding sliding grooves of each jamb, as the removal of the tion-bearings, however, may be added, as is' customary with windowsash, to confine the blinds to special locations in their grooves, if so desired. My object, however, in omitting the bearing-springs on the frame-jainbs is to avoid their additional expense and liability to cause undue friction and consequent trouble and repair. The circular form of the rabbet in the front edges of the blindstiles for the entrance of the stop-bead projections always retains the frame of the blind securely in position, and enables the face of the frame of one blind to be brought into close sliding contact with the blind which slides adjacent to it, and effectually closes the otherwise open space between the blinds, thereby preventing the passage of air or dust, which is often so objectionable when the window is open.
