The invention relates to carrying cases for sewing Inachines and is particularly concerned with the construction of a hood in the form of a trunlr having built in containers for receiving the sewing accessorie The upper parts of machines while thev are not in use are frequently covered by a trunk-like hood placed in inverted position over the machine.
As a rule the hood does not conform to the shape of the upper part of the sewing machine but is in practice in the form oi a rectangular body. As a result a free space exists the walls of. the hood and actual upper part of the sewing machine which can be utilized for accommode g small objects such as, for example, the accessories for the sewing machine.
Attempts have already been made to build special receptacles into the hood to receive the sewing accessories. These .known pr positions, however, do not provide optir i solutions oi the problem because actually they resalt in the hood being enlarged so that even more space is required. Moreover, the receptacles built into the known hoods are not readily accessible.
it is therefore an object of the invention to provide a hood-like cover for sewing machines, the outlines of which do not exceed the sides of the conventional trunklilre hoods, where the waste space is utilized in the best manner possible so that additional receptacles are obviated.
ln accordance with a further object of the invention, the receptacles for the sewing accessories are arranged in a manner to save space while at the same time greater accessibility to the receptacles or containers is provided t rout the necessity of complicated manipulations.
Accordingly, the invention provides that the receptacles cr containers are arranged in the upper part of the trunkiike hood parallel to the upper edges of the longitudinal walls of a bridge which separates the receptacles, which are adapted to be closed by cover portions each of which constit tes a part oi the wall oi the hood.
in a preferred embodiment of the invention the bridge wl n separates the receptacles from one another' is arranged the center line of the trunk-like hood; it may be hollow and open along the side facin y the sewing mach e so that yarn roll pins extending upwardly from the machine may be accommodated in a space preserving manner. Furthermore, a grip for the trunk can be secued to the bridge.
To prevent the sewing accesories from becoming mixed up while the machine is being transported, the receptacles are sub-divided by intermediate walls which are faced with corresponding intermediate walls in the cover portions which are constructed in such a manner that in the closed condition of the cover portions, closed hollow spaces are formed for accommodating the sewing accesso es.
FIG. 3 is a section taken along the line lllwIII, in FG. 2 with the lid portions in partly opened position.
The trunk or case which is generally indicated at 1 comprises in a known manner the case bottom 2 and the hood 3. These parts are connected with one another by means of lock joints d at their side walls S, 6 in a manner that tde hood 3 can be completely removed in order to render the sewing machine which is fastened to the bottom 2 of the casing in operative condition.
Two receptacles i3 are donned in a casing installed in the upper part of the hood 3 parallel to the upper edges ot' the longitudinal walls 8, the bottoms i@ of which close the inner space of the hood 3 at the top. A bridge il separates the receptacles 9 from one another. in the embodiment illustrated the bridge ll extends longitudina'ily or" he center of the hood lt is hollow and open at the bottom to provide space for the yarn roll pins i3 of the sewing machine 7. A grip l2 is secured to the bridge ll by means of which the entire case or trank is carried.
The receptacles 9 may be closed by means of the cover portions i4 which present longitudinal walls i5 and lo and transverse walls i7 (llG. 2). in the closed condition of the receptacles 9 the longitudinal walls l and i6 constitute a part of the longitudinal walls S of the hood 3 while the transverse walls i7 come to rest along those parts of the end walls 5 or" the hood 3 which close the receptacles 9 during the opened condition of the cover portions i4.
The transverse walls i7 are provided with studs 18 to provide pivotal support for the cover portions lli. The studs l engage the bores l@ that are provided in the side walls S. Latches 2i? are provided on the bridge 11 and locks 2l snap into engagement with the latches on the cover portions i4 for locking the cover portions.
The longitudinal walls l5 of the cover portions M are ob'hnely cut along their lower edges 22 substantially tangentially with respect to the pivot axes of the studs in order to avoid the forming of slots between the cover portions l-' and the longitudinal walls S when the receptacles 9 are closed. Furthermore, the adjacent edges 213 oi` the longitudinal walls il of the hood 3 are adapted to match the oblique cuts on the longitudinal walls 8.
The receptacles 9 are sub-divided into individual compartments by intermediate walls Zd to permit orderly arrangement of the different sewing accessories. As the receptacles it are closed the intermediate walls Z5 arranged on the cover portions lid become seated on the ermediate walls 2.o. In this manner the sewing accessories cannot become mixed up during the transportation ot the sewing machine in the casing.
Having now described our invention with reference to the embodiment illustrated in the drawings, we do not :ish to tbe limited thereto, but what we desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States of America is set forth in the appended claims.
We claim:
