Description
Nov. 12, 1963 s, GUFFAN 3,110,343
WINDOW SHADE CLEANER Filed 001;. 31, 1961 A INVENTOR.
Ji VVAZ 507M United States Patent 3,113,343 WENDQW SHADE CLEANER Samuel Guiian, 1488 ()ceanparkway, Brooklyn, N.Y. Filed Get. 31, 1961, Ser. No. 145*,il84 1 Qlaim. (Cl. 169-11) My invention is directed toward window shades and more particularly is directed toward devices for cleaning Window shades which 1 term window shade cleaners.
It is an object of my invention to provide a new and improved window shade cleaner for cleaning a shade as it is rolled and unrolled.
Another object of my invention is to provide a new and improved window shade cleaner of the character indicated which is simple in construction and inexpensive.
Still another object of my invention is to provide a new and improved window shade cleaner of the character indicated which can be quickly attached or removed and can be cleaned easily.
These and other objects of my invention will either be explained or will become apparent hereinafter.
In accordance with the principles of my invention, I provide two spaced apart brackets secured adjacent opposite ends of a horizontally extending window shade. The shade is always at least partially unrolled whereby an unrolled portion of the shade extends downward past the brackets. Secured between the brackets are two horizontahy extending cleaning members, one on each side of the shade, which are in contact with the shade. As the shade is rolled or unrolled, it is cleaned by the two members.
Illustrative embodiments of my invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a window shade cleaner in accordance with the invention.
FIGURE 2 is a perspective exploded view showing the relationship of certain parts used in the cleaner of FIG- URE 1.
FIGURE 3 is a side elevation view of the cleaner of FEGURE 1.
FIGURE 4 is a detail view of a modification of the cleaner structure of FIGURE 1.
FEGURE 5 is a detail view side elevation of a portion of the structure shown in FIGURE 4.
Referring to FIGURES l, 2 and 3, a window shade 12 is horizontally held in position against a window frame 14 in conventional manner. e ending downwardly from the top of the shade 12 are two brackets 16 and 13, each bracket being positioned adjacent a corresponding end of the shade.
( Ileaning members 26 and 28 each comprise a horizontally extending frame 34 which clamps in place a horizontally extending shade cleaning element 36 formed for example of a spongy fibrous material such as felt.
As shade 12 is rolled and unrolled by moving a pull ring 42 attached to the bottom of the shade by pull chain 44, the shade is cleaned and the dirt therefrom is transferred to elements 36. Elements 36 can be pulled out of members 26 and 23 for easy cleaning.
Alternatively, as shown in FIGURES 4 and 5, members 26 and 28 with elements 36 can be replaced by felt rollers 46, and the cleaning process can be employed as before.
While I have shown and described and pointed out my invention as applied to the particular embodiments disclosed herein, many variations will be apparent to those skilled in the art. Consequently my protection is to be limited only by the claim which follows.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A- device of the character described comprising a horizontally extended window shade having a rolled portion and an unrolled portion downwardly extending from the rolled portion, a pair of bracket members in spaced relation to one another each of which has a pair of semicircular portions hinged to each other on their upper ends and straight portions downwardly extending from the lower ends of the semicircular portions and being parallel to one another and provided with grooves extending over opposite sections of the straight portions, longitudinal horizontal cleaning elements engaging the grooves in the straight sections of said bracket members being secured thereto and connecting said bracket members to one another, and resilient means tending to force the straight portions of each bracket member toward each other, sections of the rolled portion of said shade being rotatable in the semicircular portions of said brackets, and the unrolled portion of said shade being in frictional engagement with said cleaning elements on both sides of the shade.
