Application ined rbrualyie, 1927. seria; No. 168,732.
My invention relates to awindow cleaner and more particularly is intended as an improvement on the window cleaner forming the subject of my United States patent application led vAugust '18th, 1926, Serial No. 130,021.
The general object ofv my present inven-Y tion is tol variously improve the window `cleanery referred to with respect to the ar.
rangement of the cleaning and drying parts and their holding means, and to otherwise -simplify and provide an eiiicient structure of window cleaner.
' The nature of my present invention andv its distinguishing features and advantages will clearly appear as the description 'proceeds.
Reference is to behad tothe accompany-y ing drawingsforming-a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view'of a window cleaner embodying my present inven-V tion, showing the same 1n posltion for use on a window pane, shown in part.
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical section l lthrough the cleaning heads andl adjacent of one handle member 10, andl the other pins illustrated example constitutes `a practical parts of the handles. p Figure 3 is an elevation of one/ofthe cleaningV heads with the pads and back plate removed, the view being vgiven toshow more clearlv the springs that control the clamps I' vfor holding the pads .in place. y
Figure 4 is an edge view of one of the' pads. 4 v y v Figure 5 is a detail in transversesection,
as indicated by the .linev 55 in Figure Lfl In carrying out my invention in acc0rdance with the illustrated example two handle.- members 10 are provided joined by across bar 11 adapted to be grasped by the userof i A :the device. Two cleaning heads are provided designated generally by the' numerall 12. Bails 14,114 are pivotally secured tothe respective heads 12, said bails having'pins. 13, 113'securedto therespective handles 10,
the pins 13 being inserted directly in the end 113 being inserted in rolled edges 115 ofr a semi-cylindrical element 15onthe other handle member 10.
The handle sections 10 are made in tele-ll l .scopic sections?, the uppersection having a.
groove 16 and the lower section having xed.v thereto at the interiork of its tubular end a block 17 slidable inthe groove'16, said block being held by suitable fasteners 18. A set screw 19 is provided extending through the tubular telescoping section and through the VYblock 17 to bind against .the bottom of the .groove 16 for' holding the telescoping sections in adjusted position. (See Figure 2.) Each head 12 has a plurality'of layer`s'20-` of fabric atone side for washing the win dow anda plurality ofsuitable layers'21 at the oppositeside-for drying. Inthe medial tomof each'head- 12 to hold the fabi-ici 20 i y and 21. Springs` 25, shown best in Figure 3,'

the fabric layers.
At one side of each water from passingto the Adrying vfabric layers 21.
Backing plates 26Yare provided atv thein-l`V i terior of each head 12 against which the fab? Y y flange 23 a waterproofand non-absorbent'strip of fabric 29 vis proyvided over the turned-over edges of the washing fabricflayers 20, to prevent the ric layers 2O and 21 are held. On each backing plate 126 isa side `flange 2.7 having@` y. tongues 28 bent overv the side edgesjof the n fabricv layers 20. `vA- padmaybe provided between backing plate 26 and the fab'- ecff f ric 20 and a similar'pad 121 provided between the fabric layers 21 andadjacentbacking'plate 26.V
p The semi-cylindrical element15 is disclosed fully in myv aforementioned application,
wherein it is explainedthat said element is `pivoted onl its lower end and held'by a latch,
30, said pivoted element and the latch re ferr-ed Vto not forming part ofthe present invention. Y n.
I would state furthermore, that while vthe embodimentv of my'inventioml do not limit myself lstrictly to the exact details herein illusty-ated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied Without departure from the spirit of the invention as deiined in the appended claim.
Vhat I claim is: In a Window cleaner a cleaning head comprising a central plate having curved anges Y on each side of said plate at the top and bottom, clamp plates for said anges, a fabl rie sheet leaving,l its edge portions disposed between said ianges and said clamp plates and held in clamped position by said plates, and springs disposed adjacent to said langed plate and connected to said clamp plates.
