Description
L. .H. MORIN A ril 30, 1963 BOTTOM STOP FOR ONE-SIDED FASTENER STRINGERS Filed Sept. 22, 196l INVENTOR. Lou/5 H MOR/A/ HTTOR'NEY United States Patent 3,087,217 BOTTOM STOP FOR ONE-SIDED FASTENER STRINGERS Louis H. Morin, Bronx, N.Y. (125 Beechwood Ave., New Rochelle, N.Y.)
Filed Sept. 22, 1961, Ser. No. 139,984 Claims. (Cl. 24-205.11)
This invention relates to separable fasteners, wherein the scoops are disposed on one surface only of the stringers of the fastener. More particularly, the invention deals in a bottom stop for fasteners of this type and kind which is arranged entirely upon the inner surface of the fastener, in other words, the surface of the stringers to which the scoops are attached so that the bottom stop is completely concealed on the front surface of the stringers of the fastener.
Still more particularly, the invention deals with a bottom stop having channelled sides normally open to receive the beads of the stringer tapes and fashioned to securely engage the beads in attachment of the bottom stop to the stringer tapes.
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:
FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic perspective view of the bottom stop end portion of a separable fastener illustrating the bottom stop attached to the beads of the stringer tapes.
FIG. 2 is an enlarged section on the broken line 22 of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 3 is a section generally on the line 33 of FIG. 1 showing one side only of the bottom stop.
In the drawing, 10, shows part of the stringers of a one-sided separable fastener, wherein the scoops 11, 1-1' are attached to the beads 12, 12 on one surface only of the stringer tapes. At 13 are indicated the abutting edges of the tapes 10, 10. At 14 is shown one of my improved bottom stops. The bottom stop comprises a central plate 15 having What might be termed similar rounded channel sides 16, 16', the free ends of which have toothlike serrations 17, 17'. These free ends normally extend perpendicularly to the rear surfaces 18, 18 of the stringers to provide free passage over the beads 12, 12 in attachment of the end stop; whereupon, the end portions, including the serrations 17, 17, are forced inwardly to securely engage the beads, as clearly illustrated in FIG. 2 of the drawing. The rounded members, or channels, 16, 16', where they join the plate 15, are cutout at intervals, as indicated at 19, 19, the two cutouts 19" being clear-1y illustrated in FIG. 1 of the drawing. This forms on inner adjacent portions of the channels 16, 16' of the end stop pairs of prongs 20, 20 which engage the beads 12, 12' and serve as backing members for the inwardly bent serrated ends 17, 17 in establishing a positive attachment of the end stop to the beads 12, 12'. It will also appear, from a consideration of FIG. 2 of the drawing, that the outer corner portions of the serrations 17, 17' extend slightly onto the tapes 10, 10', as indicated at 21, 21' in FIG. 2 of the drawing. However, the corner portions of the rounded channels terminate above the surface of the stringer tapes, one of which being indicated at 22' in FIG. 3 of the drawing.
3,087,217 Patented. Apr. 30, 1963 An end stop of the type and kind defined can be economically produced and simply and easily attached to the stringer tapes, with one end portion of the end stop adjacent one of the end scoops, as indicated at 23 in FIG. 1 of the drawing.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bottom stop for separable fastener stringers having stringer tapes and beads on only one side of said tapes adjacent to but spaced from edge portions thereof, said bottom stop having a pair of rounded channels at sides thereof engaging the beads of the stringer tapes, the bottom stop being disposed in its entirety upon the surface of the stringer tapes to which the beads are attached, said channels securely engaging the beads in retaining the bottom stop against displacement from and movement on said stringer tapes, outer extremities of said channels having engaging edges, said channels being spaced by a central plate portion, and said plate portion having projecting prongs engaging the beads of the stringer tape at adjacent edges of said beads.
2. A bottom stop for separable fastener stringers having stringer tapes and beads on only one side of said tapes adjacent to but spaced from edge portions thereof, said bottom stop having a pair of rounded channels at sides thereof engaging the beads of the stringer tapes, the bottom stop being disposed in its entirety upon the surface of the stringer tapes to which the beads are attached, said channels securely engaging the beads in retaining the bottom stop against displacement from and movement on said stringer tapes, outer extremities of said channel-s having serrated edges, said channels being spaced by a central plate portion, said plate portion having projecting prongs engaging the beads of the stringer tape at adjacent edges of said beads, and said prongs being formed from part of said rounded channel portions.
3. A bottom stop for separable fastener stringers having stringer tapes and beads on only one side of said tapes adjacent to but spaced from edge portions thereof, said bottom stop having a pair of rounded channels at sides thereof engaging the beads of the stringer tapes, the bottom stop being disposed in its entirety upon the surface of the stringer tapes to which the beads are attached, said channels securely engaging the beads in retaining the bottom stop against displacement from and movement on said stringer tapes, said channels being spaced by a central plate portion, and said plate portion having projecting prongs lying in the plane of said plate portion and engaging adjacent edges of the beads of the stringer tapes.
4. A bottom stop for separable fastener stringers having stringer tapes and beads on only one side of said tapes adjacent to but spaced from edge portions thereof, said bottom stop having a pair of rounded channels at sides thereof engaging the beads of the stringer tapes, the bottom stop being disposed in its entirety upon the surface of the stringer tapes to which the beads are attached, each of said channels having means at end portions thereof firmly gripping said beads in securing the bottom stop against movement on the stringer tapes, and one of said last named means comprising prongs engaging inner adjacent surfaces of said beads.
5. A bottom stop for separable fastener stringers having stringer tapes and beads on only one side of said tapes adjacent to but spaced from edge portions thereof, said bottom stop having a pair of rounded channels at sides thereof engaging the beads of the stringer tapes, the bottom stop being disposed in its entirety upon the surface of the stringer tapes to which the beads are att-ached, each of said channels having means at end portions thereof firmly gripping said beads in securing the bottom stop against movement on the stringer tapes, one of said last named means comprising prongs engaging inner adjacent surfaces of said beads, and the other of said means comprising inwardly turned serrated ends on said channels.
