Description

HEAD MOUNT FOR DRY SHAVER Filed y 17. 1960 INVENTO PETRUS J. J. VAES gala/KM United States Patent Gfifice 3,081,541 Patented Mar. 19, 1963 HEAD MOUNT FOR DRY SHAVER Petrus Jozephus Johannes Vaes, Drachten, Netherlands, assignor to North American Philips Company, Inc.,
New York, N.Y., a corporation of Delaware Filed May 17, 1960, Ser. No. 29,658 Claims priority, application Netherlands May 26, 1959 Claims. (Cl. 30-43) The invention relates to a shaving head for use in a dry shaving apparatus comprising a mounting member in which the shear p1ate(s) is(are) held. In accordance with the type of apparatus a shear plate may be rigidly secured to the mounting member of the shaving head or be movable to a certain extent in the mounting member.
It is often required to shape the mounting member in a complicated form in order to have the possibility of holding the shear plate(s) in the desired manner in the mounting member and, as the case may be, of attaching the shaving head to the dry shaving apparatus. With a known shaving head the mounting member consists of only one piece of metal. The complicated form involves a costly and ditficult manufacturing process.
In accordance with the invention the mounting member consists of a mounting plate which is provided on the inner side with a body of sprayable or mouldable material, the shape of which is adapted to the function of holding the shear plate and serves, as the case may be, at the same time to fix the head to an apparatus.
The body of sprayed or moulded material according to the invention may be applied to the mounting plate in a very simple manner by spraying or pressing, the required complicated form being at the same time obtained. The material may be metal or synthetic substance, for example, nylon. The sole condition to be fulfilled by the material of the body is that this material should permit of being sprayed or pressed.
According to a further aspect of the invention pins for fixing the head to an apparatus are embedded in body of sprayed or pressed material. During the spraying or pressing process these pins may already be taken through the material of the body; as an alternative, however, the pins may be provided afterwards in apertures left in the body to this end.
The invention will be described more fully with reference to one embodiment which relates to a shaving head comprising two circular shear plates, which are arranged so as to permit a depression.
FIG. 1 is an elevation of the bottom side of a mounting member according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line II--II of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line IIIIII of FIG. 1, and
FIG. 4 is sectional view taken on the line IVIV of 'FIG. 1, wherein the lid for holding the shear plates and cutting members is arranged on the mounting member, and
FIG. 5 shows this lid separately in an elevation.
A mounting plate 1 is provided with two apertures 2, which correspond to the shape of the shear plates 3. On the inner side the mounting plate 1 is a body portion 4 of nylon, which also has apertures 5, through which the edges 6 of the shear plates 3 are taken. These edges 6 have recesses 18 corresponding to lugs 7 of the nylon body. The shear plates 3 are thus prevented from turning. In the body 4 pins 8 are secured in apertures 9. The pins 8 are intended to secure the head to a dry shaving apparatus. In FIG. 4 the shaving head is shown provided with shear plates 3 and the associated cutting members 10. On the nylon body 4 is arranged a lid in a clamping position, so that the shear plates 3 and the cutting members 10 cannot fall out of the mounting member, in spite of the fact that the shear plates 3 with their cutting members 10 are arranged so as to be removable from the mounting plate 1 when lid 15 is unclamped from the nylon body 4. The lid 15 has apertures 16, which permit a coupling of the cutting members 10 with a driving shaft. Through apertures 17 extend the pins 8 which firmly engages a part of the periphery of the apertures 17 thereby frictionally holding the lid 15 on the mounting plate 1.
What is claimed is:
