SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 808,018, dated November 11, 1884.

To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HIRAM O. TURNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sherman, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Churn, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention relates to improvements in churn-powers in which suitable gearing and frame-work operate in conjunction with a vertically-reciprocating dasher; and the objects of my improvements are, first, to provide for the quick and convenient detaching of the churn from the driving mechanism; and, second, to afford facilities for the proper adjustment of the device to the different sizes of churns. I attain these objects by.the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is aside view of the entire machine; Fig. 2 a back, and Fig. 3 atop,view ofthe same.

The frame-work which carries the mechanism for actuating the churn-dasher consists of two parallelbars, A A, held at a suitable distance apart by blocks B, andrestingupon legs designated byCO. The rods D, projecting laterally from the bar A, are forked and bent upward at their outer ends, and by securing them to the side of the building or other structure the frame-work is held in an upright p0- sition.
Upon the bar A is secured a standard, E, which is provided with a guide, F, for the reciprocating dasher-shaft G. This shaft passes loosely through a hole in bar A, and from thence into the churn H, the lower end being provided with dashers I, of the usual style,
as shown.
K designates the balance and crank wheel for operating the dasher-shaft, and a a detachable pitman which connects the two together, the said pitman being fitted at one end to a pin upon one side ofa spring-clamp, c, which grips the dasher-shaft, and at its remaining end into one of aseries of holes formed in a spoke of the crank-wheel. The axis of this wheel is journaled in boxing e, secured upon the bar A,and is provided with a toothed pinion, '6, which engages with a driving gearwheel L. This wheel is provided with a crankhandle for operating the same.
The letter it indicates a dovetailed block, which sets detachably in a dovetailed recess, the object of which is to hold the churn-dasher shaft in place when the churn is in operation.
To remove the power from the churn, the dovetailed block a is removed and the pitman disengaged from the dasher-shaft, when the shaft may be entirely freed from the guide of standard E, leaving the churn free to be either emptied or filled, as the case may be, and then the several parts reconnected for purposes of churning.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
