CONTAINER FOR PACKAGING AND DISPLAYING GIRDLES Filed Feb. 15, 1961 INVENTOR.
01mm 57 W HENRY/V1? /7 TTOANA'Y United States Patent Gluclrint Com an Inc. Ne Y k tion of New Yor lr y, w or N'Y a corpora Filed Feb. 15, 196i, Ser. No. 89,394 4 Claims. (Cl. 206-7) This invention relates to containers comprising two container parts, namely a product for girdle supporting part and a sleeve part, in which the first named part is arranged and coupled to form a unitary finished substantially sealed container. More particularly, the invention deals with a structure of the character described, wherein the main wall portions of the container parts have contracted side edges controlling positioning of the inner part in the outer or sleeve part of the container.
Still more particularly, the invention deals with a structure of the character described, wherein the inner part includes means for definitely gripping and holding end portions of a panty-type girdle, in connection with opposed side walls of said inner part.
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:
FIG. 1 is a view of the inner container part in open position, diagrammatically illustrating a panty-type gir dle coupled therewith, with parts of the construction broken away.
FIG. 2 is a face view of the assembled container on a reduced scale.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged section on the line 33 of FIG. 2 showing only the container and illustrating parts of the construction in elevation, with parts broken away; and
FIG. 4 is a partial section on the line 44 of FIG. 2 on an enlarged scale and omitting the inner container part.
In the drawing, FIG. 1 shows the inner container part in an extended position. This container part comprises two walls 11 and 12, generally of the same peripheral contour, in other words, having contracted edges 13 and 14, respectively, which join in a central narrow wall portion 15, forming the bottom wall of the container assemblage, as illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3 of the drawing. This narrow bottom wall has, at its ends, extending flaps 16 which operate to retain side wall portions of a folded panty girdle 17 in position at the lower contracted end of the container assemblage. This will clearly appear from a consideration of FIG. 1 of the drawing.
The Wall 11 has, at its upper end, a narrow top closure wall portion 18, including an integral closure flap 19. The flap 19 includes a projecting tongue 20 having foldable cars 21, the function of which will be later described, the ears 21 being foldable on the fold dotted line 23 and the closure wall 18 is foldable on the wall 11 on the dotted fold line 24.
The part 11 includes two slits 25 and 26, the slit 25 being generally Ushaped in form; whereas, the slit 26 is of an irregular contour, as clearly noted in FIG. 1, and these slits collectively form a garment retaining band 27 for support of the upper folded waistband portion 28 of the girdle in connection with the wall part 11.
The girdle, in the construction shown, is of the pantytype and includes the crotch insert portion 29, diagrammatically illustrated in FIG. 1 of the drawing, and the lower leg portions of the girdle include a plurality of garters, a pair of which are diagrammaticallv illustrated ice at 30 and portions of other garters are indicated at 31, the latter being broken away to simplify the present illustration. The purpose of this is to illustrate attachment of the garters 30 .to cutout garter engaging tab portions 32 fashioned integrally from the Wall 12. The tab portions 32 include adjacent the fold lines 33 cutouts 34 for engaging the rounded heads 35 of conventional stocking engaging clasps of the garters. This construction serves to definitely position the lower leg portions of the panty girdle on the wall 11, so that, when the inner part 10 is moved into the extended display position, as shown in FIG. 1 of the drawing, the girdle 17 will maintain a display position, substantially as diagrammatically illustrated in FIG. 1 of the drawing. The free end of the wall 12 includes a supplemental closure flap 36 foldable on the line 37. This flap, in combination with the wall 18, forms a complete closure to the top flared end of the container assemblage, as will clearly appear from a consideration of FIG. 3 of the drawing.
No detailed description of the garter structure 30 is deemed to be necessary, except to the inclusion of the head 35 which establishes a definite engagement with the tabs 32 and, for this reason, no complete showing of the broken away garters 31 is deemed to be necessary. The lower leg portions of the panty girdle, in their folded relationship, are diagrammatically illustrated at 38, 38' in FIG. 1.
The other container part 39 is in the form of a tubular sleeve having a flared end portion 40 and a contracted end portion 41. Note FIG. 2 of the drawing. For purposes of description, the wall 42 of the container part 39 may be said to comprise the front wall; whereas, the wall 43, note FIGS. 3 and 4, may be said to comprise the back wall. One of the side Walls of the sleeve 39, for example, the wall 44, note FIG. 4, includes an extending flap 45 secured to the wall 43 in support of the sleeve 39 in its assembled relationship.
The front wall 42 has, at its upper portion, upwardly flared slits 46 adapted to receive the ears 21 of the tongue 20 in coupling the container part 10 with the part 39, as clearly illustrated in FIG. 2 of the drawing.
In the showing in FIG. 3 of the drawing, part of the inner container 10 is shown in end elevation and part of the same is shown in section. It will be apparent that the flaps 16 serve to hold or confine the foldable substantially central portion 17 of the girdle in position on the inner container part 18 when the walls 11 and 14 are folded on the fold lines 11, 14, indicated, in part, in FIG. 1 of the drawing in passing the inner container part into the sleeve part 39 and, upon completing this operation, the flap 19, including the wall 18, is folded over the top of the assemblage and the ears 21' are coupled with the fold wall 42 by passage through the slits 46. This position of the complete assemblage pro- Vides a neat and finished package for shipment, storage and handling and, as a matter of fact, by utilizing attractive materials in the respective container parts, the package may be utilized in the storage of the garment in a dresser or other storage by the purchaser, the container maintaining the garment in clean and desirable shape at all times until it is desired to use the same and, from time to time, the garment can be recoupled with the container to continue the well protective features in storage of the garment, particularly after laundering. It will also be understood that, in merchandising the garment, the inner part 10 can be moved into its extended position and the upper tongue 24?, including the ears 21, can be utilized for hanging or other display support of the garment in conducting sales thereof.
In addition to the features previously mentioned, this packaging and displaying container further operates to glamorize the displav of the merchandise in removal of the container with the garment thereon from the sleeve and then extending the two side walls of the container in displaying the full length of the garment, while still supported on the container part. This feature further substantially eliminates soiling of the garment by avoiding extensive handling.
