Description

Sept. 25, 1962 mwmimmmmw b H. W. DOZIER FULL FRONT SLIP Filed NOV. 50, 1959 IN VEN TOR. HEP/V14 11 902/52 United States Patent 3,055,014 FULL FRONT SLIP Herma W. Dozier, 6609 Olive St., St. Louis, Mo. Filed Nov. 30, 1959, Ser. No. 856,249 3 Claims. (Cl. 2-73) The present invention relates to a full front or extra fullness slip.
It is among the objects of the present invention to provide an extra fullness in front for a slip which will permit more comfortable wear for maternity cases.
Another object is to provide a novel slip construction which can be readily worn, and at the same time will provide extra fullness in front without otherwise disadvantageously affecting the drape, hang and appearance of the slip.
Still further objects and advantages will appear in the more detailed description set forth below, it being understood, however, that this more detailed description is given by Way of illustration and explanation only and not by way of limitation, since various changes therein may be made by those skilled in the art without departing fromthe scope and spirit of the present invention.
According to the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the slip is provided with gathered portions at the front sides thereof which give extra fullness on each side of the middle front portion thereof without disadvantageously affecting the fullness, size, shape, drape or attractiveness of the garment.
In the preferred form of the garment, the fullness is provided with two separated yet parallel transversely extending elastic members which are positioned on each side of the seam separating the breast cups from the skirt portion.
These bands of elastic material are usually positioned on each side of an inturned seam construction under each side of the breast cup.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views:
FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of the slip.
FIG. 2 is a rear elevational view of the slip.
FIG. 3 is a detailed view showing the application of the elastic.
FIG. 4 is a transverse fragmentary sectional view upon the line 4-4 of FIG. 3.
Referring to FIG. 1, there is shown the front breast cup portions A, and the forward skirt portion B which are to be suspended by the shoulder straps C.
The present invention is particularly directed to the elastic gathered portion D.
Referring particularly to FIGS. 1 and 2, it will be noted that the breast cups A are joined together by a central seam 10, and they are joined to the skirt by a horizontal transverse seam 11 having depending side portions 12.
This seam reaches a peak at 13, at its junction with the vertical seam 10.
Patented Sept. 25, I962 At the rear of the garment, the seam dips as indicated at 14, and it is attached to the upper ends 15, 16 and 17 of the three panels 18, 19 and 20.
The front panel 21 has a lower edging 22 which extends entirely around the garment as indicated at the back at 23.
The breast cups A at their sides 24 are attached by the seams 25 to the back panel 26.
The upper portion of the garment is edged as indicated at 27 and 28, and it has the gathered portions 29.
The forward peaks 30 carry the ends 31 of the shoulder straps C.
Referring particularly to FIGS. 3 and 4, the portions 50 of the seam 11 are turned inwardly as indicated by the arrow 51 and stitched together as indicated at 52 with the elastic members 53 extending along inturned portions 54 thereof on the rear of the garment.
The separation between the members 53 is at a maximum at 55, and they come together at the corners 56 on each side of the maximum width portion 55.
The elastic material may consist of covered rubber threads which are stitched in position with the fabric flat and with the threads under tension so that when the threads are released, the seam will be gathered up forming the fullness as indicated at E in FIG. 1.
It will be noted that the stitching as indicated at 57 encircles the rubber band or rubber elastic strands 53, and this encircling stitching extends along the entire length of the rubber bands both above and below the seam 50 until the two elastics meet at the corners 56.
This extra fullness indicated at E is spaced about equally from the sides of the garment as well as from the central seam 10 and it occupies about one-third of the total space between the central seam 10 and the sides of the garment as indicated in FIG. 1.
As many changes could be made in the above full front slip, and many widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope of the claims, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of the invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed, what is claimed is:
1. An extra fullness slip having front breast cup portions having adjacent central vertical edges and also having lower edges and a depending skirt panel having an upper edge with a transverse seam extending between and forming an attachment between the cup portions and the skirt panel and double rubber cord elastic shirred connections, each having double rubber cords and having ends and having a center extending along said seam, said adjacent central vertical edges of said cup portions being provided with a vertical connection seam extending vcrtically at the center front of the slip and said skirt panel at said upper edge and said lower edges of the cup portions being joined together by said transverse connection seam, which transverse connection seam extends downwardly and outwardly toward the sides of the slip, said shirred connections being limited to an intermediate area centrally under each of said cup portions and terminating substantially short of the vertical connection seam and the sides of the slip and said double rubber cords being vertically separated and spaced at said center of said shirred connections and converging together and meeting at said transverse seam at the ends of the shirred connections.
2. A full front slip comprising two breast covers joined at the front center of the garment by a vertical seam and a depending front skirt panel joined at its upper edge to the lower edges of he breast covers by a transverse seam having a peak at the lower end of said vertical seam and descending rfrom said peak to each side of the front of the garment and an elongated double line of elongated elastic elements extending along the intermediate portion of the seam between and spaced from the lower end of the vertical seam and from the sides of the garment and said garment being locally gathered between and at the double line of elastic elements.
3. The slip of claim 2, said elastic elements consisting of rubber cords and said cords being centrally spaced apart directly below the center of the breast covers and converging together adjacent the side edges of the breast covers.
