This invention relates to a brassiere, and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a womans undergarment of such type with extended portions to provide breast receiving pockets without the employment of darts arranged in and secured to the body of the brassiere.

A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of the type referred to so constructed and arranged to cover the breasts and worn without any discomforting effect upon the wearer.

Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a brassiere which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, light in weight, thoroughly efficient for the purpose intended, pleasing in appearance and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

To the above ends essentially and others which may hereinafter appear, the invention consists of such parts and such combination of parts of the brassiere structure falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

The brassiere can be set up with or without several of the edges trimmed, and is illustrated by way of example as having several of its edges trimmed with an edging to enhance the appearance thereof. I

The brassire includes a body part 1 formed of a pair of oppositely disposed breast pocket forming members or sections 2, of like form and a combined base and coupling element or section 3 which is common to the sections 2, and each of the latter is formed of a flat piece of suitable fabric of angled contour having an upstanding portion 4 and a horizontal portion 5 extending inwardly from the lower part of portion 4.

Each section 2 has an out curved lower edge 6 which is common to portions 4, 5. The portion 4 has an inclined outer edge 7, the latter extending inwardly from its lower to its upper end. The top edge 8 of portion 4 inclines downwardly from its outer to its inner end. The inner edge 9 of portion 4 from the inner end of edge 8 extends upon an inwardly extending curve throughout. The inner edge 10 of portion 5 is straight. The top edge 11 of portion 4 is upon an arcuate curve from its outer end to the point of mergence at its inner end with the lower end of the inner edge 9 of portion 4. The portion 5 increases in height from its outer end to its point of mergcnce with portion 4.

The section 3 is of belt like form and consists of a length of fabric bent upon itself to provide a pair of folds ll, 12 and between the free longi-- tudinal edges of the latter extends the lower marginal portions of the section 2. The section 3 is secured to the sections 2 by a row of stitching 13, and the former when secured to section 1 have the edges 10 thereof arranged in opposed spaced relation.

The first step of the method is the arranging of the lower marginal portions of a pair of oppositely disposed pocket forming members of angled contour and of like shape, in spaced relation, between the free longitudinal edges of the combined base and coupling section 3. The sections 2 are then secured to section 3 by the row of stitching 13.

After the sections 12 and 13 are secured together by the stitching 13, the section 3 is folded at its transverse center upon itself, as at 14, to provide for the sections 2 to be arranged in a manner whereby the bottom edge of each will extend at an upward inclination from its outer to its inner end, the outer edge of each vertically disposed, the upper edges of portions 4 from the outer to the inner ends thereof at an upward inclination, and the inner edges of portions 5 at opposite inclinations with respect to each other. The folding of section 3 at its transverse center forms it with a pair of curved parts 15, 16 which extend at an up curve from their outer towards their inner ends. The folding of section 3 at its transverse center also provides a triangular shaped portion 17 initially opposing part 16, but such portion 1'7 is folded back upon part 15. The central portion of section 3 has applied thereto rows of stitching l8, l9 and 20 which not only secure the folds ll, 12 together, but also secure portion 17 to part 16. The sections of the body part 1 will appear as shown in Figure 6, when the section 3 is folded and secured'together at its center.

The edges 9 and 11 of each section 2 are then coupled together by any suitable means, and by way of example a narrow oblong strip of lace 21 is employed and which is secured to the section 2 adjacent edges 9 and 11 thereby shaping the section into a breast receiving pocket 22, with the edges 8 and 10 being a substantial continuation of each other, disposed at an inclination and at an opposite inclination with respect to the edge 7, and with the inclination of the latter being greater than that of edges 8 and 10. The edges 7 and 8 extend towardseach other from their lower to their upper ends when the edges 9 and ll'are coupled together. When the edges 9 and 11 of each section 2 are secured together the latter and section 3 will appear as shown in Figure 6.

The brassiere includes resilient body straps 23 attached to the ends of section 3 and having coacting means 24 at their free ends for detachably connecting them together. The straps 23 may be connected to sections 3 before or after it is folded at its center.

The brassiere includes a pair of shoulder straps 25 attached to the sections 2 and to the straps 23. The shoulder straps 25 may be attached at one end to sections 2 before or after section 3 is folded at its center and at their other ends to straps 23 before or after the latter have been secured to section 3.

When the edges 9 and 11 of each section 2 are coupled together each section 2 is extended outwardly with respect to section 3 and each part 15, 16 of the latter is disposed substantially vertically with respect to the bottom oi a section 2.

What I claim is:- J

1. A brassiere comprising a combined base and coupling element of belt-like form folded upon itself at its transverse center, means for fixedly securing the folded portion of elcment'to the remaining part thereof to provide a pair of oppositely extending curved parts, a pair of oppositely disposed spaced sections of angled-form secured at their lower ends to said curved parts, each of said sections includin an upstanding portion and a horizontal portion extending inwardly from the lower part of said upstanding portion, the latter being formed with an outer side edge inclining outwardly from its upper to its lower end, a top edge inclining downwardly from the upper end of said outer side edge and an inner side edge of less length than said outer side edge and curved inwardly from the inner end of said top edge, said horizontal portion having a straight inner side edge and an arcuate top edge, and means for coupling throughout the inner side edges of the upstanding portions to the top edges of the horizontal portions to position the top edges of the upstanding portions in lengthwise alignment with the inner side edges of the horizontal portions to provide a pair of oppositely disposed spaced breast receiving pockets extending outwardly from the top edge of said curved parts.

2. A brassiere comprising a combined base and coupling element of belt-like form folded upon itself at itstransverse center, means for fixedly securing the folded portion of said element to the remaining part thereof to provide a pair of oppositely extending curved parts, a pair of oppositely disposed spaced sections of angled-form secured at their lower ends to said curved parts, each of said sections including an upstanding portion and a horizontal portion extending inwardly from the lower part of said upstanding portion, the latter being formed with an outer side edge inclining outwardly from the upper to the lower end, a top edge inclining downwardly from the upper end of said outer side edge and W5 an inner side edge of less length than said outer side edge and curved inwardly from the inner end of said top edge, said horizontal portion having a straight inner side edge and an arcuate top edge, and means for coupling throughout the inno her side edges of the upstanding portions to the top edges of the horizontal portions to position the top edges of the upstanding portions in lengthwise alignment with the inner side edges of the horizontal portions to provide a pair of oppositely disposed spaced breast receiving pockets extending outwardly from the top edge of said curved parts, said horizontal portion of each section gradually increasing in height from its inner side edge to its point of mergence with the upstanding portion of the section.
