(Cl. 36-2) This invention relates to trousers legs and more particularly to protectors for protecting the lower part of the trousers legs from rain and the like.

It is an object of this invention to provide an improved waterproof protector for enclosing a trousers leg from the shoe to a point well above the bottom of conventional raincoats.

Another object of this invention is to provide a trousers leg protector which is suspended from the trousers leg pocket, thus eliminating special attachments for the tronsers leg and avoiding leg encircling devices which tend to reduce circulation in the wearer`s leg.

These objects, and other features and advantages of this invention will become readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIG. 1 is a fragmentary front perspective view showing a pair of the protectors in use;

FIG. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of one protector as seen from one side;

FIG. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the protector of FIG. 2 as seen from the other side, and with part of the protector broken away for clarity of illustration; and

FIG. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of a modified form of the trousers leg protector.

Referring now to the drawings, the lower body portion of a man is illustrated in FIG. 1 as wearing a pair of trousers 10, a belt A11, and a pair of shoes 12. For protecting each trousers leg 13 and 14 against rain and the like, a pair of protectors 16 and 17 (FIG. 1) are provided. As the protectors are snbstantially identical, whereby their use for right and left legs can be alternated, only one protector 17 will be described.

The body portion 18 (FIGS. 2 and 3) of the protector 17 is formed of a substantial rectangular piece of waterproof material, and which is suitably stitched at 19 approxirnately two-thirds the height of the protector 17 in a trousers leg like Shape. The remaining one-third of the protector is open at the two fiaps 21 and 22 which can be overlapped and releasably secured by means of cominercially available sections 23 and 24 of self-sticking tape material.

The protector 17 is made slightly larger than the trousers leg so that, with the fiaps 21 and 22 apart, it can be easily slipped over the leg 14 (FIG. 1) without creasing or folding the leg 14. The lower continuous bottom edge 26 of the protector 17 hangs slightly below the cuif 27 of the trousers leg 14, and the fiaps 21 and 22, where connected, are adjacent the crotch 28 of the trousers 10.

To hold the protector firmly in place and without any sagging thereof, it is provided with an elastic band 29 and a hook 31, the latter adapted for ready insertion into the side pocket 32 of the trousers leg 14. The single band 29 is connected at its ends 33 and 3'4 by snap |fasteners 36 to the upper edge 37 of the trousers leg 17, the con- 3,052,994 Patented Sept. 11, 1962 ICC nections being closely adjacent the crease points 38 and 39 of the protector 17.

The hook 31 has a loop 41 formed at one end through which the band 29 is insertable and by means of which the hook 31 is adjustably slidable on the Strap, limited only by a cross piece 42 of elastic material. To assure as perfect a fit as possible of the protector 17, one end 34 of the band 29 is provided with several longitudinally spaced snaps 43, whereby the effective length of the band 29 can be varied.

Referring to FIG. 4, a modified version of the protector 17 is illustrated, with like parts designated by like reference numerals. Instead of the double end connected band 29, a single band 44 is provided only one end 46 of which is connected to the trousers leg upper edge 37 at a location thereon intermediate the crease points 38 and 39. A loop 47 is formed atthe other free end of the band 44 and through which the looped end 41 of the hook 31 is movably inserted. Here again, in addition to the adjustable nature of the hook 31 on the band '44, by providing several more snaps 48 longitudinally spaced on the band for Cooperation with the snap fastener 36 to vary the size of the loop 47, the effective length of the modified band 44 can be varied.

Although one embodiment and a modification thereof have been disclosed herein, it is to be remembered that Various other modifications and alternate constructions of the invention can be made within its full scope as defined by the appended claim.

I clairn:

A protector for a trousers leg having a side pocket and a crotch portion comprising, a body member of water repellent type material formed in the Shape of said trousers leg, the lower end of which is adapted to extend below the cuf of said trousers leg, and the upper end of which terminates adjacent said crotch portion, a pair of closeable fiaps formed on one side of said protector and adjacent the upper end thereof, whereby to increase the opening at said upper end of the protector when said fiaps are open, the other end of said protector having an opening defined by a continuous edge of the material, coacting adhesive portions on said fiaps for releasably securing said fiaps in closed positions therefor, an elastic band connected to the other side of said protector opposite said fiaps and having a variable effective length, and means slidably connected to said band for removableinsertion within said side pocket for supporting said protector.
